Day 1. Arrive Tunis. You will be met by Goway's representative and transferred to your hotel. Hotel Mercure El Mechtel or similar (2 nights). D
Day 2. Carthage & Sidi Bou Said. Visit the ancient Medina of Tunis with its bustling markets and the Bardo Museum, famous for its collection of Roman mosaics. In the afternoon visit Carthage, with its Roman villa and ancient baths. Time to stroll through the charming Moorish village of Sidi Bou Said. BLD
Day 3. Tunis to Tozeur. Depart for Kairouan where you visit the Grand Mosque and Berber Mausoleum. After lunch we travel to the oasis of Tozeur, with its 250-acre palm grove that produces some of the finest dates in Tunisia. Visit Dar Cherait Museum featuring exhibits on traditional life and dress in Tunisia. Hotel Dar Cherait (or similar). BLD
Day 4. Tozeur to Douz. Abundant natural water supply has made Tozeur a richly inhabited oasis. A tour is followed by lunch. In the afternoon cross the Chott El Jerid salt desert to Douz known as the "Gateway to the Sahara". Travel to Zaafrane to experience the dunes. A highlight of the day is a camel ride at sunset (optional). Hotel El Mouradi Douz (or similar). BLD
Day 5. Douz to Matmata. A short ferry ride to Jerba to visit Houmt Suq, with its souks and squares. A brief stop at the handicraft village of Guellala. This afternoon continue to Matmata, site of several scenes from the Star Wars film. Here are fascinating underground dwellings of the Berber Troglodytes. Visit a typical local home and meet a Berber family. Hotel Vincii Resort. BLD
Day 6. Matmata to Sfax. Leave for Gabes, a maritime oasis famous for its local spice market. Continue on to Sfax to visit the Medina. Hotel Mercure Sfax. BLD
Day 7. Sfax to Tunis. Depart for El Jem to see the imposing Roman amphitheatre dating back some 1,700 years and one of the best preserved ruins in the country. Stop in Monastir to visit the Ribat and then on to Sousse to visit its Medina and Fort. Continue along the Mediterranean coast to Tunis. Transfer to Tunis Airport for your flight home. This touring idea allows you to combine the splendour of the Mediterranean with many excursions including a Sahara 4WD Safari, that offers a glimpse into the traditional lifestyle and culture of the Tunisian peoples.
Day 1. Arrive Tunis. You will be met by Goway's representative and transferred to your Beach hotel in Hammamet. Nahrawess Hotel or upgrade to Le Sultan Hotel (7 nights). D
Day 2. Excursion to Kairouan-Sousse-Monastir. Travel to Kairouan to visit the Great Mosque, Aghlabites pools, and the legendary wells. Later shop in the Souk for woodwork, ceramics, inlay work and the famous Kairouan carpets. After lunch on to Monastir to visit the Ribat and the Medina in nearby Sousse. BLD
Day 3. Day at leisure. Enjoy the beautiful beach and the Mediterranean Sea. Your hotel offers many activities. BD
Day 4. Excursion to Cape Bon. Depart for Nabeul, famous for its pottery and then to Dar Chaabane to see the stonecutters. In Kelibia we visit the scenic harbour, Kerkouane, its museum and sites. In El Haouaria we visit the Roman underground caves. BLD
Day 5. Excursion to Tunis-Carthage-Sidi Bou Said. Depart for Tunis to see Souks that are virtually unchanged since the 19th century. Also visit the Medina and the renowned Bardo Museum. Continue to Carthage, the historical Roman site and then to the village of Sidi Bou Said, an architectural treasure representing the typical way of Tunisian life. BD
Day 6. Day at leisure. BD
Day 7. 4WD Desert Safari. Travel by 4X4 Jeep to El Jem to visit the 3rd century Roman amphitheater (a replica for the one in Rome). Then to the oasis of Gabes, famous for its henna and basketworks. Overnight in Matmata. BLD
Day 8. More 4WD Safari. Travelling via Douz, the doorway to the Sahara, we cross the salt lake made famous in the film "The English Patient" arriving in Tozeur, the 'Eden' in the desert. BLD
Day 9. Jeep Safari . Today view Chebika's cascade colour contrasts in the arid landscape with the intense green of its palm trees. Visit the canyon of Mides then the oasis of Tamerza, with its ravines, palm groves, fragrant gardens and water sources. Lunch in Gafsa before returning to Hammamet. Nahrawess Hotel or upgrade to Le Sultan Hotel. BLD
Day 10. Depart Tunis. Transfer to Tunis Airport for your flight home. Why not extend your stay? B
