Day 5. Onboard train to Lhasa.
Travel through Xian, Lanzhou and Xining. You are travelling on the highest rail line in the world which exceeds 13,000 feet (4000m) above sea level for more than 80 percent of the route and tops at a height of 16,640 feet (5120m). The trip takes around 48 hours and covers a distance of approximately 4,065 km.

The power for the train is provided by three 3,800 horse power diesel locomotives. Amazingly, it climbs from Golmund City at 9,000 ft (2770m) to Tanggula Pass at 16,640 feet (4000m) in a mere 6-1/2 hours. You journey through picturesque scenery, showcasing a vista of green foothills, mountainous landscape and snow-clad mountains, combined with the fascination of Tibetan life in the villages and farms you pass along the way. When you reach Golmund, the change in scenery is quite striking. The landscape becomes very barren with a lunar look to it, as the train starts on a steep climb to Lhasa. This is the stretch where oxygen is released into the cabins. And, if you still feel dizziness, you can request a personal oxygen canister.

Day 6. Arrive in Lhasa.
You will arrive in Lhasa at 18:04 and be met by your local Tibetan guide who will transfer you to your hotel.

Tips to acclimatize to high altitude (3650m) for the first two days in Tibet. You may feel a bit tired and uncomfortable when arriving in Lhasa due to lack of oxygen. You could take oxygen in the hotel, at a clinic or hospital if you really need it. However, please try to avoid it and get adapted to the high altitude by yourself if you don't feel too bad. Remember there is still a long way to go, if you rely on oxygen from the beginning, it will be more difficult for you to adapt to higher altitude at Shigatse, and Everest Base which is 5300m.. You should restrict or eliminate alcohol in the first two days when you are in Tibet as it can trigger high altitude sickness. Lhasa Hotel (3 nights) D
