If your time is limited, here is the perfect way to experience the heart of India in one week while capturing some of the rich heritage of the country.

Fatehpur SikriDay 1. Arrive Delhi. On arrival, transfer to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure. Delhi city is the showcase of India and has been the centre of political activity for decades. The ancient fortress, majestic buildings and historic ruins find their modern counterparts in the tall skyscrapers, diplomatic enclaves and well-planned townships of New Delhi. The people here, their lifestyles, traditions and even the climate are a rich and varied mixture of all that is India.

Day 2. Delhi sightseeing. In the morning, visit the bustling, busy area of winding back streets and colourful ambience of Old Delhi. Afterwards, visit The Red Fort (closed on Mondays), Jama Masjid and Raj Ghat, the cremation site of Mahatma Gandhi also known as Father of Nation. In the afternoon, visit New Delhi with drive down the main avenue and see the impressive India Gate, the Qutub Minar, the Presidential Palace and the 16th Century tomb of Humayun. B

Day 3. Delhi to Jaipur. Depart by road for Jaipur. On arrival, check into your hotel. Remainder of the day at leisure to see this beautiful city. The Heritage Pink City gets its name from its founder Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II. He was a great ruler and a renowned mathematician and astrologer. Jaipur has been called the first planned city of the country, with the entire city being divided into rectangular blocks and surrounded by a peripheral wall with huge gates guarding it. B

Day 4. Jaipur. In the morning, enjoy a tour of the city including visits to the City Palace and Museum, and the Jantar Mantar Observatory built in the 18th century by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II. Later, journey back in time to the deserted 17th Century Amber Fortress and enjoy an unforgettable experience by ascending to the fortress by an Elephant. B

Day 5. Jaipur to Agra. Depart by road to Agra with a stop at Fatehpur Sikri, the Ghost city of Emperor Akbar the Great. Originally planned as the capital city, then was compelled to abandon due to shortage of water, this abandoned city was built with predominantly Red Sandstone in 1571 to 1585. It is one of the finest examples of Mughal architectural splendour at its height. Later, transfer to your hotel in Agra. B

Day 6. Agra. This morning, see one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Taj Mahal. This extravagant monument of love was built in 1630 by the Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife. Also visit Agra Fort. In the afternoon, depart by road for Delhi and overnight. B

Day 7. Delhi to your next destination. The day is at leisure before you are transferred to the airport for your onward flight. B

Day 5. Jaipur to Ranthambore. Leave from Jaipur by road to the Ranthambore Tiger Sanctuary. Arrive around noon at wildlife resort and check in. In the afternoon, a wildlife animal safari to the jungle in an open jeep.

Ranthambore National Park is a popular park with fascinating blend of history and nature. Inside the park is a formidable fort that was built in the 10th century, and the park supports a diverse range of flora and fauna, including around the majestic tigers. Overnight at the lodge. BLD

Day 6. At Ranthambore. An early morning drive into the dense jungle of Ranthambore in a jeep for tiger tracking and bird watching. Also indulge in wildlife photography. The jungle visits last about three hours. Explore the wild surroundings or bird watching in Ranthambore National Park. Return to the lodge for lunch, and later drive into the jungle for another wildlife safari. BLD

Day 7. Ranthambore Tiger Sanctuary to Agra. After breakfast, an early morning transfer to the railway station to board the Jan Shatabdai Express to Bharatpur to see the Fatehpur Sikri, the Ghost city of Emperor Akbar the Great.
