River Kwai Experience - River Kwai Jungle Rafts

Internationally famous, the black iron bridge was brought from Java by the Japanese supervision by Allied prisoner-of-war labour as part of the Death Railway linking Thailand with Burma. Still in use today, the bridge was the target of frequent Allied bombing raids during World War II and was rebuilt after the war ended. The curved spans of the bridge are the original sections. A daily train still follows the historical route from Kanchanaburi to Nam Tok Railway Station.

The Thailand-Burma Railway Museum and the JEATH War Museum are must see attractions. The city of Kanchanaburi is also home to the Kanchanaburi War Cemetery. Experience the jungles of Thailand and the famous River Kwai, on the unique moored floatel of 17 bamboo rafts.

Float-el River Kwai Jungle Rafts Day 1. Bangkok to River Kwai. Depart by air-conditioned mini bus to Kanchanaburi. Upon arrival, visit the War Museum (Thailand – Burma Railway Center), Kanchanaburi War Cemetery of the allied prisoners and Bridge over the River Kwai.

Take a long tail speedboat from the pier to River Kwai Jungle Rafts, passing unspoiled mountainous jungle scenery. Check in to the River Kwai Jungle Rafts upon arrival, followed by lunch at the Rafts. Later on, take an exciting boat ride downstream to Resotel Pier and continue to visit the Hell Fire Pass Memorial. Also enjoy a visit to the nearby ethnic Mon Tribal Village followed by a dance presentation. LD

Day 2. River Kwai. After breakfast, take an exciting boat ride to visit Saiyoke Yai Waterfall & National Park – experience nature at its best. Return back to your hotel for a Thai lunch then depart for the Lava Cave. Explore these fascinating caves and relax in the great outdoors (optional tours: canoeing or mountain biking. Dinner this evening will be at River Kwai Jungle Rafts. BLD

Day 3. River Kwai to Bangkok. After breakfast, visit to the nearby ethnic Mon Tribal Village and take an optional elephant ride through the bamboo forest. Check out of your hotel and take a boat ride to the pier, followed by a delicious lunch. Board the "Death Railway Train", passing over the dangerous looking wooden viaduct built along the mountainside. Continue by minivan or coach for the return drive to Bangkok and transfer to your hotel. BL

River Kwai Village Hotel - 3 day Travel Idea

Experience the jungles of Thailand and the famous River Kwai in the Jungle Village.

River Kwai BridgeDay 1. Bangkok to River Kwai. Depart Bangkok for Kanchanaburi. Upon arrival, visit the Thailand – Burma Railway Center, an open air museum constructed in the form of actual prisoners of war camp. There are collections of photographs, pictures and articles from the construction of the Death Railway.

Next, visit the Kanchanaburi War Cemetery. The cemetery contains of the remains of over 6000 prisoners of war who lost their lives during the railway construction. Following the cemetery, marvel at the Bridge over the River Kwai as depicted in the movie and a part of the Death Railway, the historical black iron bridge which was the target of allied bombing during 1945.

Arrive at River Kwai Village Hotel, check in and lunch at Jungle View Restaurant. Remainder of the day is at leisure. LD

Day 2. River Kwai. Take a long tail speedboat to Kaeng Lava Cave and Sai Yoke Waterfall. After a 15 minute trip upstream, a stop is made at the famous Kaeng Lava Cave, well known for its fantastic stone formations. Continue riding upstream passing many floating houses.

The bamboo jungle gives you a first hand impression of the upcountry lifestyles along this scenic river. Arrive at Sai Yoke Waterfall and enjoy a picnic lunch. In the afternoon, time at leisure for swimming in the river or in the waterfall, or stroll through the bamboo and teak forests. Return to your hotel for dinner. BLD

Day 3. River Kwai to Bangkok. After breakfast, take a boat ride along the Kwai Noi to Lum Sum. You will have a short walk to the railway station for an exciting train ride along part of the "Death Railway" for a memorable journey to Namtok Station, the last existing train station of the Thailand-Burma railway. Arrive at Namtok Station and transfer back to the River Kwai Village Hotel for a Thai lunch. Depart for Bangkok and arrive in the early evening. BL
