Thala Beach Lodge is the perfect Port Douglas accommodation choice to explore the Great Barrier Reef, private coastal beaches and tropical rainforest. Our individual private bungalows are set overlooking the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, World Heritage listed rainforest and lush tropical beaches. All accommodation has views either to the beach front or the rainforest mountains. Time spent relaxing on the timber decked verandahs is well rewarded by sightings of birds, butterflies, possums and sugar gliders. Paths meander through rainforest connecting your private Port Douglas accommodation with Thala´s private beach frontage.

Jungle Walk Bungalow

Jungle Walk Bungalows capture the intimate feel of the unique woodland forest, are finished in subtle natural colours, and located deep within the forest furthest from the main lodge area. Tracks through the vine forest and birding paths are within easy access.

Eucalypt Bungalow

Thala´s Eucalypt Bungalows capture the intimate feel of the unique tropical forest. Tropical birds often rest in the treetops directly off the balcony.

Eucalypt Bungalows are individually placed and border the paths as they rise up the headland through Eucalypt forest. The rise affords height for the verandahs that are perfect for watching for birds and butterlies as they settle and feed in the forest canopy. There is a priviledged feeling of intimacy with the forest and it´s inhabitants.

Recent guests commented that on their first morning they drew the curtains to behold the treetops at their balcony´s edge festooned with colourful Rainbow Lorikeets and numerous Honeyeaters. The colourful spectacle took their breath away. They described their Eucalypt Bungalow as the world´s most luxurious bird hide!

By day spectacular butterflies and birds pass right by your balcony and on a still night you might hear the cackle of the Orange Footed Scrubfowl or the distant howl of wild dingoes. There is nothing more memorable or evocative of Australia´s wild places

Coral Sea Bungalows

Coral Sea Bungalows offer the ultimate in what Thala´s environment has on display. They follow the higher ridges of the headland and look through and over the top fringes of the forest canopy to a spectacular view over the ocean yet are unobtrusively tucked away into the natural landscape.

From the seclusion of your verandah you might see Ospreys, Bryde´s whales or a pod of rare Australian Snub Fin Dolphins that are resident and commonly seen in this area.

Sandpiper Suite

Sandpiper Suite is privacy and romance with a view that follows the decent of dunes on to a long golden stretch of a beach lapped by the Coral Sea. It perches on the southern most point of the headland with views of small islands and an unbroken horizon.

Perched on the headland Sandpiper is privacy and romance at the edge of one of the world´s natural treasures, The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.

Luxuriously furnished, Sandpiper has a private verandah, lounge and spacious bedroom, living area and large balcony overlooking our two secluded beaches

2 Freeform Pools
The main Pool is located on the crest of the headland that is the location for Thala´s central complex. This stunning pool features waterfalls, spas and grottos for that late night romantic swim, or just to recline on the edge of the water and gaze out over the ocean. Secluded among the gardens is the "Rock Pool" a smaller and more intimate swimming pool for guests looking for a quiet grove in which to relax.

Private Sandy Beaches
An exclusive luxury haven surrounded by over 2 km of private sandy beaches and sheltered coves.Long evening walks, romantic meals or just pretending you have been cast away in Paradise – this will be an unspoiled experience.

Opals and Jewellery
Thala offer a wonderful display of Australian Opals and handcrafted jewellery. There is an expert on site to inform and assist you with your purchases.

Adventure Desk
Contact reception, or see the staff at the tour desk to organize tours and on site experiences. If you require any assistance with a lift to the main lodge or a lift to the beach staff are on hand to assist.

Thala´s Boutique is open from early morning until after dinner each evening.

David is Thala´s bird and butterfly expert and you will be thrilled at the colour and variety of the species to be found at Thala. An early start to hear the first chorus of Thala´s birds in full song is a wonderful way to welcome a new day. We also have local experts who can take you for full day birding expeditions through a wide variety of habitats.

The on-site Health and Beauty Spa can pamper your body and enlighten your senses.

Nature Walks (free of charge)
Walks through the surrounding natural setting of Thala Beach Lodge will reveal some interesting plants and animals.

Sea Kayaking
To glide low on the water in a kayak is a magical experience of keeping watch for marine life unperturbed by your silent passage. As you gaze at the lushness of rainforest clad mountains, life becomes timeless and takes on a whole new perspective. Our expert guide will take you in kayaks to his secret places to look for marine turtles, stingrays, dolphins and dugongs.

Surrounded by sounds of the rainforest & ocean – enjoy an introduction to the beautiful Southern Constellations from an experienced & passionate guide. View many fascinating stars & planets using telescopes and binoculars at the unique outdoor observatory.

Evenings with the Kuku–Yalangi People(free of charge)
Elders from our local aboriginal community come and share their stories as passed on from previous generations including the history of their ancient cultural traditions. You will enjoy seeing and learning the value of bush tucker food, the knowledge of which has been nurtured since the age of the hunter–gatherer.

Yoga
Invigorating Yoga classes can be organised during your stay.

Day 1. Arrive Thala. Upon arrival at Cairns airport you will be met and transferred to Thala Beach Lodge. The remainder of your day is at leisure. D

Day 2 & 3. At leisure. Indulge yourself on this superb resort which offers many options. Birdwatching, guided nature walks, night sky watching, talks by local specialists.
For the more relaxed, take picnic hamper to a secluded beach, laze by one of the swimming pools or enjoy a the amazing views. Why not stay longer?. BLD (including wine with dinner)

Day 4. Depart Thala. At leisure until you depart for Cairns airport to connect with your onward arrangements. B
