CRADLE MOUNTAIN HUTS
(Winner of many awards!)
This 4-day walk is an active tour that includes a fantastic menu with fresh Tasmanian fish, meat, cheese, vegetables and fruits and Tasmanian wine and beer. Inspiring accommodation in the environmentally considerate Forester Beach Camp and the architecturally designed and award winning lodge.
Day 1. Launceston to Foresters Beach. Arrive at the office in Launceston and after introductions and a gear check, journey to Mt William via a scenic route that includes the rich pastoral landscapes of Scottsdale and the mining town of Derby.
Reach the northern part of the Mt. William National Park and begin walking at Boulder Point. Views to the north include the Bass Strait Island (Flinders and Clark). Lunch is enjoyed in one of the many pristine beaches accompanied by native birds, interesting shells and marine artifacts. Foresters Beach Camp (9 km - 4 hours)
Day 2. Foresters Beach to Bay Of Fires. Following a relaxed breakfast at the camp, walk south absorbing the magnificent coastline colours and solitude as you walk along ridgelines of sand dunes. Exploration of the marsupial lawns can reveal the quiet native animals and the many tracks they leave behind. Lunch is at one of the secluded coves along the way to Eddystone Point Lighthouse. The afternoon is spent in the seclusion of the coves that lead gradually to the Bay of Fires Lodge. The evening is spent at the lodge where meals are prepared and accompanied by fine Tasmanian wine and beer. Bay of Fires Lodge (2 nights) (14 km - 7 hours)
Day 3. Bay of Fires. Today is yours to decide how you would like to enjoy the area. Rise early and experience the many native birds accompanying the dawn or sleep late and be woken by aromas of a hot cooked breakfast and freshly brewed coffee.
Choose from one of the many optional activities available including paddling down the Ansons Rivers, fishing, snorkeling in the marine nursery (additional costs) or relax and enjoy the surrounds of the lodge. In the evening you can join a guided wildlife walk with the opportunity to encounter kangaroos, possums or even a Tasmanian devil.
Day 4. Bay of Fires to Launceston. Following a leisurely breakfast there is time for a swim or walk before departing the lodge. Walk through eucalyptus forests and coastal heathland where many native birds can be seen and heard. After enjoying lunch, drive back to Launceston via the scenic north coast of Tasmania and beautiful vineyards of the Tamar Valley. Arrive in Launceston at approximately 5:30pm were the tour concludes. (5 km - 2 hours)
