Classic Taiwan

5 days

Taiwan lies on the western edge of the Pacific Rim with majestic peaks, rolling hills and plains, coastlines, and many other wonders. There are 6 National Parks and 12 national scenic areas to preserve Taiwan's best natural ecological environment and cultural sites. Take in the splendor and sheer heights of the cliffs at Taroko Gorge, take a ride on the Alishan train, one of only three mountain railways in the world and experience the breathtaking sunset and sea of clouds.

Hike up to the summit of Northeast Asia's highest peak, Jade Mountain. You can also soak up the sun in Kenting, Asia's version of Hawaii. You can stand at the edge of Sun Moon Lake or traipse through the East Rift Valley. A journey of natural discovery.

TaipeiDay 1. Monday. Taipei/Sun Moon Lake. Depart from Taipei by bus and travel to Nantou. Here you will embark on a tour of Sun Moon Lake - located in the middle of Taiwan - which is the only natural large lake in Taiwan. The southern part of Kuang-Hua Island is shaped like a new moon, and the northern part is shaped like a sun; hence the name Sun-Moon Lake. The most famous sights around Sun-Moon Lake are Tehua Village, the Tse-En Pagoda and the Holy Monk Shrine. Overnight in Sun Moon Lake.

Day 2. Tuesday. Sun Moon/Tainan City/Kaohsiung. Depart from Sun Moon Lake and travel to Tainan City. Enjoy a tour of the Fort of Anping, the Kozinga Shrine and Chihkan Lou Tower – renamed the 'Red-topped Tower' by China in 1945. In the afternoon, proceed to Kaohsiung - Taiwan's second largest city. Here you will have the opportunity to visit the Spring & Autumn Pavilion, the Love River and the Lio Ho Night Market. Overnight in Kaohsiung.

Day 3. Wednesday. Kaohsiung/Kenting National Park/Taitung. Move on to Kenting National Park, Taiwan's only tropical National Park. This is Taiwan's most densely populated National Park and provides visitors with a view of typical Taiwanese rural life. In addition, the National Park includes mountains, forests, lakes, sand dunes, beaches, and coral reefs. A morning tour to Kenting National Park includes a stop will at Oluanpi lighthouse and Maopitou coastal scenic area and the Kenting forest recreation area. Overnight in Taitung.

Day 4. Thursday. Taitung/East Coast Tour/Hualien. Today you will explore a unique part of Taiwan. Continue to the East Coasts where you will visit Siaoyeliou, Sansientai, the Stone Steps and the Caves of the Eight Immortals. Later on in the afternoon you will arrive in the city of Hualien and stay overnight.

Day 5. Friday. Hualien/Taipei. Visit Taroko Gorge, known for its sheer marble cliffs, deep gorges, winding tunnels, and the Liwu River, which flows through its craggy landscape. This landscape originated over 230 million years ago, when coral reefs formed in the tropical shallows where Taiwan is now located. Time transformed the coral into limestone.

The flow of the Liwu River created winding gorges, rapids and waterfalls. After touring the fascinating scenery of Taroko Gorge by bus, you will continue on to the Eternal Spring Shrine, the Swallow Caves and the Tunnel of Nine. Arrive back in Taipei in the evening and your tour will end here.
