INTRODUCING THE NEW DOWNUNDER

Due to be released next week, Goway’s 2003/4 DOWNUNDER catalogue contains an additional 20 pages enabling it to feature more variety of ideas than ever before. “It has long been the travel agent’s ‘bible’ for the South Pacific and we wanted to enhance its popularity”, stated Bruce Hodge, President of the 33 year old Australia/New Zealand specialist.

More V.I.P. and up-market travel ideas are included, a market according to Hodge, that is growing in Canada. For an even faster growing segment, more self drive itineraries for independent travellers are offered. New too are small group touring experiences featuring unique accommodations and local guides, as well as more fun and adventure ideas.

The new catalogue still features all the company’s best selling Pacific Islands and Asian stopovers, ecocruises, rail journeys, coach tours, camping tours, car and motorhome rentals, independent city modules and hotel passes plus “the best” fully escorted tours from North America and Goway’s popular Snowbird long stay Winter Escapes.

GOWAY STRENGTHENS DOWNUNDER COMMITMENT

Following the introduction last week of their “Wizard of OZ” (Oztralia) staff classifications, Goway Travel has now appointed an exclusive Sales & Product Director, South Pacific for their Australia and New Zealand objectives. Bruce Hodge, President of the South Pacific specialist wholesaler, announced that Lisa Fitzell has recently come to Canada to take over this new position.

For the past three years Lisa has been based in the company’s office in Sydney. Responsible for Goway Australia’s product and business development, Lisa helped make Goway one of Downunder’s top inbound tour operators, was instrumental in the development of their vast inbound New Zealand program and, in her sales capacity helped triple Goway’s business from the UK, Europe and South Africa.

Prior to joining Goway Australia, Lisa was the Product and Sales Director for two of Britain’s major wholesalers for the South Pacific. In Canada Lisa is responsible for all things relating to Goway’s Australia and New Zealand business, including the company’s enhanced DOWNUNDER catalogue due for release next week. “Internally, she will be backed up by real “Wizards of OZ”, stated Hodge, “and she will be attending most of the company’s “How to Sell Downunder” breakfast seminars that are being held across the country this month.

GOWAY WITH WIZARDS

According to Webster’s dictionary “a wizard is a very clever and skillful person possessed of magical influence”. With this in mind, Goway Travel decided a year ago to promote themselves as the Wizards of OZ (OZ for OZtralia in the Australian slang dictionary).

” We actually thought we were real wizards” stated Bruce Hodge, President of the downunder specialist company, “until we tested ourselves with questions submitted by our reservations staff. Not one person passed the test!”

As a result, the company launched an intense staff training program to qualify genuine wizards, and today enough have qualified for the company to genuinely promote themselves as the Wizards of OZ. Those that are not yet qualified are designated “wizards in training”. As well as the designation, other privileges for Goway Wizards include the opportunity to go on a special in-house familiarization tour. Wizards are also expected to maintain their levels of skill and magic.

” When it comes to Downunder we are always looking for ways to better ourselves, our products and our services to agents” continued Hodge. “Our industry now requires all of us to be more professional than we were in the past and only the professionals are going to survive. We want professional retail agents to know they can expect more from Goway.”

Goway also claims their website www.goway.com and their Downunder catalogue are North America’s most comprehensive website and brochure for the South Pacific. Now they claim their staff are “possessed of magic”. Their Wizards of OZ can be reached at 1-800-387-8850.
