Goway’s Annual Aussie “Pow Wow” a Success

Over 33 Australian travel industry representatives travelled to Toronto in August to join Goway’s annual “Pow Wow” Aussie Training program to update the company’s reservations teams on the latest from the lands Downunder. Over 600 appointments were conducted which totalled over 110 hours of product training!

Goway also hosted a special Australia evening at the InterContinental Toronto, which drew over 500 attendees for approximately 3 hours. Travel Agents and consumers were given the opportunity to meet the visiting hotel, tour and tourist board representatives from Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, and the Northern Territory and to attend an informative Goway presentation on Australia.

To end the Pow Wow training event, Goway reservations staff and managers, together with the visiting suppliers, travelled to Woodbine for a night at the races. Held in the trackside tents, the event was reminiscent of Australia’s famous Melbourne Cup, with all in attendance wearing creative, Australian themed hats.

What’s Up In Goway’s Downunder?

Goway is running a series of workshops in Western Canada in March to coincide with the release of their new Downunder and IslandsEscapes brochures.

Updates focusing on Downunder and IslandsEscapes exotic destinations and Qantas will be held in Edmonton-07March, Calgary-08March, Kelowna-09March, North Vancouver-21March, Burnaby-22March and Victoria-23March.

In addition, for those currently selling groups, or wishing to get started in this lucrative market segment, Barbara Norton, Goway’sveteran GroupsOnly Manager, will be presenting “How to Sell Groups” workshops in Kelowna-09March, North Vancouver-21March, Burnaby-22March.

SOUTH PACIFIC SYMPOSIUM 2004

The largest selling/training forum comes to Canada

Over 20 Tourism Boards, Airlines and Tour Operators have come together to present the South Pacific Symposium 2004 , organized by Goway Travel, Canada’s leading specialist operator to Downunder. The Symposium has become North America’s largest selling training forum for the South Pacific. This year it will visit 38 cities across North America, including 10 in Canada.

GOWAY STRENGTHENS DOWNUNDER COMMITMENT

Following the introduction last week of their “Wizard of OZ” (Oztralia) staff classifications, Goway Travel has now appointed an exclusive Sales & Product Director, South Pacific for their Australia and New Zealand objectives. Bruce Hodge, President of the South Pacific specialist wholesaler, announced that Lisa Fitzell has recently come to Canada to take over this new position.

For the past three years Lisa has been based in the company’s office in Sydney. Responsible for Goway Australia’s product and business development, Lisa helped make Goway one of Downunder’s top inbound tour operators, was instrumental in the development of their vast inbound New Zealand program and, in her sales capacity helped triple Goway’s business from the UK, Europe and South Africa.

Prior to joining Goway Australia, Lisa was the Product and Sales Director for two of Britain’s major wholesalers for the South Pacific. In Canada Lisa is responsible for all things relating to Goway’s Australia and New Zealand business, including the company’s enhanced DOWNUNDER catalogue due for release next week. “Internally, she will be backed up by real “Wizards of OZ”, stated Hodge, “and she will be attending most of the company’s “How to Sell Downunder” breakfast seminars that are being held across the country this month.

HOW TO SELL DOWNUNDER

Goway, the Aussie-Canadian company with connections Downunder, will soon be hosting a series of product update seminars across Canada. These seminars coincide with the launch next week of their 2003/2004 Downunder catalogue which this year has an additional 20 pages of new travel ideas.

How to sell Downunder” is the main theme of the seminars. A representative of Goway’s Sydney office will attend most seminars to provide first hand information on the new product that will be introduced to the Canadian market.

As well as up-dating their Downunder selling skills, all attendees will be eligible to win a door prize at each seminar and be entered in a draw for a 12 day luxury holiday for two in Australia. AGENTS CAN SELL ROTARY CONVENTION IN AUSTRALIA THROUGH GOWAY

Downunder specialist Goway Travel recently announced their appointment as the official contact in Canada for the Rotary International Convention that is being held in Brisbane, Australia in June 2003. The company has produced a special flyer offering airfare and accommodation for the convention and travel ideas that can be combined with it.

The program is commissionable to agents at 10%.

Since hundreds of Canadian Rotarians and their partners are expected to attend this event, travel agents have an opportunity to gain incremental business by selling into Goway’s blocked space.
