Morocco Geography and Maps
With a population of 33,250,000, Morocco is located in the extreme northwestern corner of the African continent. It is bordered by Mauritania and Algeria to the south and the east. The coastline of Morocco is on the Mediterranean Sea as well as the Atlantic Ocean. The Mediterranean is found on the northern coast of Morocco. The western coast faces the Atlantic and is characterized by sandy beaches. The coast is separated from the mountainous regions by wide fertile plains.
Morocco is home to four mountain ranges. The three main ranges run parallel to each other from the southwest to the northeast and are known as the Middle Atlas, the High Atlas and the Anti-Atlas. The fourth range is located to the north of the country and is known as the Rif Mountains. Jebel Toukbal at 4,165 m (13,665 ft) is the highest mountain in the country and is found in the High Atlas range.
To the southeast of Morocco, the mountains give way to the Sahara desert. The Sahara is the hottest desert in the world and is the third largest after Antarctica and the Arctic. The Moroccan desert is characterized by a big rocky plain that runs from the feet of the mountains almost to the Atlantic coast, south of Agadir.
