Kuala Lumpur is the capital of Malaysia and also the cultural, financial and economic centre of the country. Walking around, it becomes evident that this is a city offering a mixture of contemporary buildings and British colonial architecture. The city has evolved through the different cultures which exist here including Malays, Chinese and Indian. Although a busy city, the traffic is not as crazy as Bangkok and some other Asian cities.
Your tour of the city includes the King’s Palace, an impressive white building standing in its own grounds, the National Mosque, the interestingly designed main Railway Station, the National Monument dedicated to those who fell during World War Two, the Sultan Abdul Samad Building, a major architectural landmark, the National Museum with exhibits of traditional weapons, musical instruments, arts and crafts and ceramics, the Central Market which is primarily a handicraft market selling Malay craft including woodcarvings, saris and cheongsams and the Petronas Twin Towers, the amazing twin skyscrapers linked by a walkway near the top of the buildings. They were the highest building in the world from 1998 to 2004 and are still the tallest twin buildings.
