FIRST-CLASS | ESCORTED COACH TOUR: Embark on an unforgettable journey across Australia and New Zealand with the Waltzing Matilda Holiday of a Lifetime. As one of Goway’s premier tours, Waltzing Matilda showcases the icons of two remarkable nations, taking you from the harbour of Auckland to the Outback and Uluru/Ayers Rock to the Great Barrier Reef and includes the cosmopolitan cities of Melbourne and Sydney.

This 20-day fully-escorted Holiday of a Lifetime is very different from the other programs we offer to Australia and the South Pacific. It is one of Goway’s specifically-design fully-escorted Holidays of a Lifetime, which carry a promise of something special! Our professional Tour Director will take care of all the day-to-day details, allowing you to enjoy the history, culture, and natural beauty of both Australia and New Zealand.

Your Holiday of a Lifetime begins in New Zealand’s largest city, Auckland, where you’ll tour the waterfront and climb Mt. Eden to enjoy stunning panoramic views of the city and its gorgeous twin harbours. Head south and stop off at Waitomo, where you’ll pass into the magical Glowworm Caves where thousands of bioluminescent glowworms light up the caves like the night sky. Continue on to  Hobbiton Movie Set to explore all things Lord of the Rings. Continue along. Arrive at your destination, Rotorua, a natural marvel known for its geothermal activity, including boiling hot springs, bubbling mud pools, and exploding geysers. Rotorua is also one of New Zealand’s Maori cultural centres; you’ll enjoy a traditional Maori evening of food and entertainment and a sheep shearing exhibition during your stay

Fly to the South Island and Queenstown, a lovely resort town and the nation’s adventure capital, where you can indulge your inner daredevil by bungee jumping or sky diving. From Queenstown, you’ll also take a day trip to the magnificent fjord, Milford Sound, where you’ll enjoy a cruise and take in the majesty of towering Mitre Peak. Continue overland, driving through some of New Zealand’s most picturesque countryside on the way to Christchurch, known as the Garden City and often described as the most English city outside of England. Close out your time in New Zealand in Christchurch.

The next day, fly to Australia and Melbourne, the country’s coolest and the “World’s Most Livable City.” Get a taste of its urban chic from the laneway and arcades that make its downtown so popular to the heritage sites that lend the city some historical weight. Continue on to Adelaide, the capital of South Australia and a charming city full of Victorian architecture. You can explore the city or take a day trip to nearby Kangaroo Island, known for its animal diversity. Then fly to Alice Springs, or upgrade to take an overnight journey on the legendary Ghan Train into Alice Springs and the heart of the Outback. In Alice Springs, you’ll learn about the Flying Doctors who service remote communities and explore the Outback, the country’s rugged interior. Visit Uluru/Ayers Rock, the enormous sandstone monolith that is sacred to the local indigenous peoples and the icon of the Australian Outback.

Leave the Outback and connect to Cairns, the tropical Queensland city sitting on the edge of the Great Barrier Reef. In Cairns, you’ll head on a variety of sightseeing tours to take in the incredible nearby sites; you’ll visit a coral island in the reef, ride a train into the neighbouring mountains and rainforests, and even have the opportunity to meet Goway’s “adopted” koalas. You’ll end your Holiday of a Lifetime in Sydney, the gorgeous coastal metropolis that’s home to the famous Harbour Bridge, Opera House, and the spectacular natural harbour. After touring the city and exploring the nearby Blue Mountains, you’ll close out your Australia vacation with a “Farewell to Downunder” sunset dinner cruise aboard the famous harbour. It’s a perfect way to end an unforgettable trip.

The remarkable farm dogs will amaze you, as they demonstrate their ability to respond to commands and keep those sheep (and ducks!) in line! If a hands-on experience is what you want, jump up on stage for the opportunity to feed the baby lambs or even hand-milk a cow! After the Farm Show, jump outside to the dog trial area to watch the talented dogs in the dog trial. Duration approx. 1 hour.
Climb aboard the all-weather, all-terrain vehicle. Along the way, there are fascinating things to learn - and a few laughs too! Te Pa Tu|Evening Experience
Feast on song, drama, tradition, and divine seasonal kai (cuisine) within our forest Pā (village) –blanketed by towering Tawa trees, blazing bonfires, and forest-formed amphitheatre.

Te Pā Tū shares Māori history, traditions, and cultural aspirations across 4-hours of celebration and feasting. These events change with each season of the maramataka, the Māori lunar calendar.

Summer: Tū Te Rā - Across this lunar phase, the sun expresses optimal energy, the days are longer, and light nourishes the natural world. Tū Te Rā celebrates abundant harvest and explores concepts, rituals, and stories of ancient Māori warfare and peace.

These can include roasted tuna (native eel), creamy pāua (abalone) on rewena (bread) crostini, foraged greens, chunky smoked kahawai, ember warmed kumara and restorative kawakawa tea.

Torch light guides manuhiri (guests) to a lavish but relaxed four course feast. Hāngī remains hero but it shares the table with lesser-known Māori delicacies, prepared fusion style.

Wagyu pincanha, Watercress chimichurri, taro gratin – even kumara ice-cream - each dish is inspired by or infused with traditional ingredients, stories, or cooking techniques.
Whether dining al fresco or in our wharekai (dining room) we celebrate the spirit of hākari (feasting) and of Aotearoa, New Zealand

Green Island/Outer Reef Option: Depart Cairns on Great Adventures fast catamaran for the short trip to Green Island, a true coral cay. On arrival, you have 2 hours free time to explore the island. The island is perfect for strolling through cool rainforest, lazing on white coral sands, swimming or snorkeling on the surrounding coral reef or relaxing around the resort's pool. From Green Island, you re-board the catamaran and head to Great Adventure's 3-level pontoon on the outer edge of the Great Barrier Reef. The pontoon features undercover seating and tables where you will enjoy a sumptuous buffet lunch. The pontoon also has a large sundeck, full bar facilities, an underwater observatory, and a semi-submersible coral viewing tour. You will be able to snorkel or dive (surcharge applies for diving) among the reef's spectacular coral gardens and beautiful marine life. Return to Cairns at approximately 5:30 pm.

After breakfast, we board the Kuranda Scenic Railway for one of the most spectacular journeys in Australia. We will enjoy "Royale Service" as the train slowly winds its way up the epic pioneer track with every turn revealing a new panorama - sugar plantations, Barron Falls and Stoney Creek Falls.
