Duration
5 Days
Prices From:
US$ 1,792

FIRST-CLASS | CRUISE: The southernmost region of the world is where expedition cruise ships invite you to travel legendary maritime routes. On this particular sailing, you're invited to explore this beautiful and untamed region of South America which travels 'round the horn' from Ushuaia to Punta Arenas.

Join your cruise ship the Via Australis in Punta Arenas and once settled in, enjoy a cocktail party given by the captain and crew. Your real adventure starts the following morning as you sail through the Strait of Magellan, the most important natural passage between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and the Beagle Channel with its dramatic scenery. You will be surrounded by amazing scenery on all sides. Travel through the Almirantazgo Inlet with its deeply indented fjords and glaciers including the Marinelli Glacier, the largest in the inlet.  Sail to the Alberto de Agostini National Park in Ainsworth Bay and discover the beautiful sub polar Magellanic Forest with an abundance of flora and fauna and also its elephant seals on display. Then on to Tucker Islet to see the Magellanic penguins.

Continuing along the Beagle Channel, reach the Pia Fjord where you will take a short hike to a look-out point with a spectacular view of the surrounding glaciers. Sail on later to Glacier Alley with its snow-capped peaks and uninhabited wilderness.

You will sail through the Murray Channel and disembark at Cape Horn National Park and also at Wulaia Bay, the region’s largest Yamana settlement. Walk through the Megallenic Forest and view the interesting foliage.

Eventually, you will arrive at Ushaia, the southernmost city in the world in the Argentinean part of Tierra del Fuego where you will disembark.

Ventus Australis is the new state-of-the-art ship being built for the Patagonian Fjords of Chile and Argentina.

The name - Latin for "Southern Wind" - reflects Tierra del Fuego's distinctive weather, a factor that has long determined the region's socio-cultural development and that so impressed the early mariners who endeavored to explore Patagonia's southernmost waterways.

Tailor-made for exploring the remote southern tip of South America, all aspects of the 210-passenger ship - including size, length, draft and engine power - are designed to give Ventus Australis the extreme maneuverability necessary to navigate narrow fjords and channels where no other cruise ships can venture.

Ventus Australis features the latest regulations regarding safety at sea and protecting the marine environment. Ventus Australis will give travelers a chance to experience the remoteness of Patagonia and step ashore at fabled Cape Horn.
