Take a trip to Lhasa on your China Vacation
On China tours, Lhasa, meaning Land of the Gods, is the capital of Tibet, an autonomous region of China. Located 12,000 feet above sea level on the northern slopes of the Himalayas, Lhasa is over 1300 years old and covers a span of approximately 30,000 square kilometres.
Given its age and history, Lhasa has derived both a cultural and spiritual heritage. Lhasa contains many significant Tibetan Buddhist sites including Potala Palace - home to several Dalai Lamas. Featuring 1000 rooms, 10000 shrines, and about 200000 statues, Potala Palace was converted into a museum and is considered a world-famous symbol of Lhasa’s political and religious power.
The most important and sacred temple in Tibet on tours to China is Jokhang Temple, located in Barkhor Square, in the old part of Lhasa. For centuries this temple has been the key centre for Buddhist pilgrimage, and is the site of “kora”, a circumambulation route marked by four large stone incense burners placed at the corners of the temple complex.
Past political tensions between Tibet and China have not given way to Lhasa’s growing tourism industry. Monasteries, palaces, parks, and markets, all backdropped with the magnificence of the Himalayan Mountains, make Lhasa an unforgettable place to visit on China tours.

It is very enjoyable to travel in China by high-speed train, but you should avoid travelling during the National Holidays from October 1 to 7 and from May 1 to 4, as they get extra busy.
Jinxian Road in Shanghai is a small road but full of superb, Michelin-recognized restaurants. I highly recommend visiting here on your travels to China.
China's many beautiful natural sights and rich cultural areas are what I love most about visiting. Some of my personal favourites are Yunnan's Shangri-La, Xinjiang, Zhangjiajie, and the 5 Great Mountains.
