From Maharajas to Bollywood. India is the 7th largest country in the world, rich in cultural heritage and geographical beauty. It is a very colourful, dynamic destination with much to offer the visitor with its multicultural society and natural attributes.
All of the following are part of India’s tourist attractions – snow-capped mountains, jungles, deserts, beaches, animal sanctuaries, backwaters, hill stations, urban cities and lush countryside.
Temples and mosques stand side by side often in close proximity to old walled cities. It is not uncommon to find a former Maharaja’s palace converted into a hotel or a museum. Most cities have a bazaar offering everything from crafts to exotic spices. Both urban and rural dwellers add to the flavour of the country with their sarees, kurtas, turbans, kameezes etc. The north of India has a totally different flavour from the south, be it the architecture, the landscapes or the people themselves.
Some of the must sees are of course, the Taj Mahal in Agra and the Ghats along the River Ganges in the holy city of Hindus, Varanasi. But there is much more. Consider a visit to Mumbai, the cultural and commercial centre or Delhi, the administrative centre.
Udaipur is arguably the most beautiful of all India’s cities with its lakes, gardens and palaces. Jaipur has the most famous fortress, the Amber Palace reached by elephant as it situated on a small mountain. Goa has some of the best beaches anywhere. Tiger sanctuaries will provide game viewing experiences.
The Backwaters of Kerala will show you lake and river life like no other place. Kulu and Manali, resorts in North West India, are nestled under the slopes of the Himalayas as is Darjeeling on which the tea plantations are situated. Khajuraho boasts some amazing temple sculptures as does Madurai in the south.
