About Singapore
Here are some facts to be considered for a Singapore vacation. Located one degree north of the equator, Singapore is a city-state off the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula, in Southeast Asia.
Consisting of 63 islands, Singapore is a highly urbanized island country, continually developing through land reclamation. One of the busiest ports in the world, Singapore mostly comprises Chinese, but also Malays and Indians. Along with this strong blend of diverse cultures, Singapore features a distinct British colonial heritage.
Sinking into obscurity for two centuries, and featuring a mere population of 1000 people, Singapore was revived by Thomas Stamford Raffles in 1819, when he signed a treaty on behalf of the British East India Company to develop the southern part of Singapore as a British trading post. By 1860, the population increased to 80,000, and Singapore soon became the global centre for rubber exports.
One of the most prosperous countries in the world, Singapore is famous for its pristine boulevards, vast parkland, and nature reserves to be enjoyed on a Singapore tour. Marina Bay is a new development in Singapore, largely featuring an integrated resort (hotel, casino, shopping mall, convention centre and museum) as well as a large public garden which houses two conservatories.
