Position Title: Product Manager, Africa – Contract
Location: Toronto
Reporting to: General Manager of relevant Goway Specialist team 


Product & Costing

  • Negotiate Goway pricing to maximize competitive advantage and margin
  •   Review competitive pricing including web sites to ensure competitive current pricing on an ongoing basis
  • Negotiate contributions for brochures, and other Goway publications as required
  • Negotiate specials/Pricing
  • Cost air and land packages for air-inclusive getaways and specials on an ongoing basis-be first to market with specials
  • Ensure correct and up-to-date product pricing is in place in Travel Box and on the web
  • Communicate and resolve with suppliers' complaint issues
  • Query price discrepancies with suppliers where applicable
  • Brochure product selections, costing and copywriting


  • Provide training and resources to all sales teams on an ongoing basis, including new staff training training will involve Air contracts, Destination product knowledge, brochure training, web training and sales training
  • Develop and enhance training quizzes and “Expert” exams to qualify staff
  • Liaise with suppliers visiting the Toronto office to maximize training opportunities
  • Keep the training manual updated
  • Help staff work towards becoming a Destination Expert
  • Identify weak areas for individual staff members and set up ongoing training for them


  • Develop co-op Marketing Agreements with key suppliers, tourism boards and airlines solicited and brand funding in conjunction with the General Manager and VP of Air.
  • Provide pricing and suitable product offers for weekly newspaper and ad hoc marketing
  • Provide editorial and product offers for Goway eNewsletters
  • Maintain product and pricing on the marketing tools section of www.gowayagent.com

Sales Development

  • Design faxes, flyers and emails for trade and consumers as required

Consumer & Trade Presentations

  •   Create PowerPoint presentations for Destination product
  •   presentations to the retail trade and consumers as required
  •   Organize promotional shows and exhibition
  •   Reporting
  •   Track department/destination sales by product to address areas requiring improvement and meet vendor commitment
  • Report on brochure and co-op funding vs. budget and last year


  •   Miscellaneous support for Marketing Department
  •   Be informed regarding our competition
  •   Handle customer/agent complaints and endeavour to bring to a satisfactory conclusion


  •   In-depth knowledge of Africa.
  •   Excellent negotiation, verbal and written skills
  •   Strong interpersonal, communication and time management skills
  •   Minimum three years’ work experience within the travel industry 
  •   Proven track record in Product development and Marketing
  •   Ability to handle multiple tasks and conflicting deadlines
  •   Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite
  •   Ability to multi-task and is deadline driven.
  •   Certificate/diploma in Travel & Tourism; or a combination of experience, education and training equivalent to a diploma 

Key Responsibilities (no specific order):

  • Convert and close enquiries into sales from all across North America
  • Advise and create customized travel itineraries encompassing air and land arrangements
  • Manage files from the enquiry stage, follow up, closing the sale, processing the reservation to final release of documentation 
  • Deliver such customer service that you create a repeat client.

Key Requirements (no specific order):

  • Minimum 5 years of industry experience with at least 3 years selling a Goway Specialist Region
  • Solid knowledge of our specialist destination including airline contracts
  • Proven sales track record
  • Motivated by an uncapped commission target
  • Advance GDS knowledge, preferably Amadeus
  • High level of “attention to detail”
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Superior customer service skills
  • Team player with a “can-do” attitude 
  • Propensity to work on your own (@home is not for everyone)
  • High-speed wired internet access and separate hard line telephone (Not VOIP)
