The Objectives

To build homes for the less fortunate, and to make a difference.

The story of Koroipita Model TownKoroipita Model Town provides a secure place to live for families that have come from a wide range of impoverished housing situations. Some have been evicted from their house, others simply cannot keep up with increasing rental costs, some have been abandoned by family members or have lost their previous home to cyclone or flood.

Building Homes

Each Koroipita Project is situated on a 350-400sq m lot. Each lot includes a single-room home, a separate toilet, a shower kitchen unit and a cookhouse for cooking meals with an open fire. The families are encouraged to use their lot to become self-sufficient in growing their own green and root vegetables. Each
family pays $7 a week in town fees. This money goes towards the cost of the native land lease, water supply, the removal of garbage, pumping out septic tanks, a nightly security patrol, a kindergarten teacher’s salary and general town maintenance.

Rebuilding Lives

Koroipita provides homes for people, but it also helps to rebuild lives. Families who move to Koroipita have access to a range of services, programs and activities that can help improve their life skills, income and education opportunities. Not only do they have a home, but they also have a chance to break the poverty cycle for themselves and their children. As a community, the end goal for Koroipita is to function independently as a sustainable town. More than 1100 volunteers have worked on the project and have made a difference in Fiji
