San Gimignano and Siena

After breakfast, we drive south through the Tuscan countryside, passing the olive groves, green hills and vineyards that make the Chianti region so stunning. Our first stop is San Gimignano, and you will see that the town is surrounded by towers. The medieval layout of the town has largely remained intact, and this is why San Gimignano is known as the “Manhattan of Tuscany.” You will have time to explore the town, and enjoy the best ice cream at the Gelateria Dondoli shop.

We then continue to Siena where your guide will take you on a tour of this important art city. The highlight is the Piazza del Campo, the seashell-shaped square, on which the famous horserace the ‘Palio’ takes place each year, we also see the impressive and imposing cathedral.

In the afternoon, our tour will continue into the Chianti Valley. This hilly landscape, interspersed with olive groves, cypresses, vineyards and palaces, fascinates all visitors. You will experience with your own eyes, the harmony of the colours, that only the hills in this region have to offer. Finally there is a wine tasting with snacks to round off our day before we head back to our hotel.

Florence Tour

The art and cultural metropolis of Florence is a must for all travellers to Tuscany. The cityscape is dominated by the cathedral of Florence, and together with the Campanile and the baptistery forms one of the most magnificent works of art in the world. The austerity and beauty of the city, the pride and the constancy of the Florentines is manifested in a unique way in the Palazzo Vecchio. We visit the interesting sights of the historic district with our licensed guide providing commentary as we go. Afterwards there will be enough time to admire the jewellery shops on the Ponte Vecchio or to enjoy an Italian espresso!

After breakfast, we depart on a tour that will allow us to see the best of Ancient Rome and learn of the immense history of the Eternal City. Our tour includes visits well known sights including the Colosseum, Roman Forum and the Palatine Hill.

Our tour begins with a visit to the most famous monument of Ancient Rome - the Colosseum. Next stop is the Palatine Hill, where you will learn about its connection to the founding of Rome, almost 3000 years ago. Later it would become the home to the nobility of the Roman Republic, before becoming the site on which the palaces of the Roman Emperors would all be built. The ruins of these eras can still be seen today, with new and exciting archaeological discoveries still being found even to this day. From here, your guide will take you through the Roman Forum, which was the center of politics as well as public life in Ancient Rome, you will hear in detail how Romans spent their daily lives coming and going from the Forum, and our guide will point out the areas in which notable historical events took place - including Julius Caesar's funeral, when Marc Antony delivered his famous eulogy. We will also discover the House of the Vestals, the various Temples, the Senate House, the Capitol Palace the Sacred Way and the Triumph Arches. In the afternoon we will visit a local farmhouse at the Alban Hills and have a wine tasting with local appetizer before returning to our central hotel.
