Montreal to Quebec City

After meeting at a convention hotel, we start our journey as we meet up with the mighty St. Lawrence River, which we follow along the scenic Chemin du Roy Highway partway to Quebec City. We pass numerous historical French-Canadian villages en route to Quebec City, the only walled city in North America. Lunch at a typical sugar shack at Ile d’Orleans. Return to Quebec City and enjoy a sightseeing tour. Highlights: the Latin Quarter, the Plains of Abraham, the Citadel, the Fortifications, the National Assembly, Place Royale, the Basilica and other points of interest).

Wendake Afternoon Tour

At leisure, until late afternoon, when we will head to Wendake to take part in the “Myths and Legends” activity the Ekionkiestha’ National Longhouse. The longhouse, a dwelling of the Iroquoian people built entirely of wood and bark and heated with three fires, provides a magical setting for this exceptional immersive experience. After the group will enjoy dinner at the Hotel Musee Premieres Nations before returning to Quebec City.

Quebec City to Rimouski

Following the shore of the St. Lawrence River, we will travel to Rimouski. This small city is the capital of the Lower St. Lawrence region.

It is an important centre for fishing and for the dairy industry in this region. Rimouski is built on three levels, rising from the banks of the St. Lawrence River to a terrace that overlooks the area. The city is also home to some of the finest artwork from eastern Québec. In fact, the region is known for magnificent works of wood carving.

Rimouski to Bonaventure

Today, we head to Bonaventure. A seaside resort, Bonaventure was founded in 1760 by 12 Acadian families who were among those expelled from Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.

Bonaventure Perce

Morning at leisure. During the afternoon we travel to Perce. Percé was once the largest fishing port in the Gaspé Peninsula. It is now the gem of the entire Gaspé region as a resort and tourist town and renowned for the extraordinary beauty of its surroundings. Well regarded for its geological features, the most famous is the great rock pierced with a hole that has given the community its name Percé.

Today enjoy a remarkable cruise to the Ile Bonaventure and observe the fascinating bird colonies. At low tide walk to the legendary rock and examine the thousands of fossils embedded in the limestone.

Perce to Matane

The scenery will be just as spectacular today, as the journey continues to follow the coastal highway along Chaleur Bay until Gaspe. The route moves inland through typical Quebecois villages to Matane. Poised on the St. Lawrence estuary at the gateway to Gaspésie, Matane boasts an outstanding location. Its name originates in a Mi'kmaq word for "beaver pond," so it's no surprise to learn that Matane is a nature destination par excellence. Discover a vibrant human-scale downtown whose array of sites and services make it the most attractive city in the eastern Québec.

You'll also be charmed by the legendary hospitality of the people of this region that's by turns urban, rural, industrial and historic-but above all, maritime.

Matane to La Malbaie

Leaving Matane this morning, the route will be along the shore of the St. Lawrence Seaway to Riviere-du-Loup to board a ferry to St Simeon and continue to La Malbaie in the Charlevoix region. Farewell Dinner at the hotel.

La Malbaie – Tadoussac – Quebec City

Today, we head for Tadoussac for a whale-watching cruise on the St. Lawrence. Whales by the shore can often be seen where the Saguenay River joins the St. Lawrence. The shallow waters at the confluence of the two rivers are a rich feeding ground. The Saguenay is the home of the beluga whale, a variety of white arctic porpoise. Other species of whale reported near the mouth of the Saguenay include finbacks, humpbacks and blues. Return to Quebec City.
