AREN BERGSTROM

TRAVEL WRITER

CONTENT & CREATIVE MANAGER

You might say that I was destined to become a Globetrotter after my family took me to Germany two times before I was four. If that wasn't enough to give me the travel bug, a school term spent in Sweden as a young teenager and a trek across Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand when I was 18 made sure travel was in my blood for life. I've traveled to 25 countries across Asia, Europe, and North and South America, including recent trips to Iceland and Peru. I continue to expand my horizons by exploring whenever I can. My favourite travel experience was visiting the main cities of Japan, but my love for food, drink, and film will take me anywhere that boasts great art and culture. When I'm not writing content or editing video for Goway, I'm working as an independent writer, director, and film critic in Toronto. My short films have played festivals worldwide. You can find my expansive film writing at 3 Brothers Film.

My favourite places

  • Takayama

    Asia

Visiting Takayama is like magically enterting a Studio Ghibli film. This town in the Japanese Alps offers an unhurried pace, a gorgeous old town, and a prime setting on a river on the edge of the foothills. Between the gorgeous surroundings and the kind people, you'll start thinking about retiring here once you leave.

  • Brasov

    Europe

This Transylvanian town forms one corner of the triangle with Sibiu and Sighisoara and is about as lovely as you could want a mountain town to be. It has easy access to the key Translyvanian sights like Bran Castle, as well as the sort of untouched mountain wilderness that is almost non-existant in most of Europe.

  • Tokyo

    Asia

Tokyo is the world in one city. It's stunningly modern but you'll find medieval temples and ancient tradition around every corner. Its sheer size means the city is not homogenous, offering sights and experiences for all manner of tastes. It truly deserves the title of metropolis.

  • Dalat

    Asia

This city deep in the highlands of central Vietnam is known for its eccentric architecture and mild temperatures. You'll think you're in the French Alps as you explore the surrounding valleys and take in its kitschy culture. Take a motorcycle ride through the mountains to complete the experience.

Did you know?

  • Knowing a few phrases of Japanese like "Can I get the bill?" will prove invaluable when exploring Japan.
  • Vietnam has the cheapest beer in the world. A pint from the street vendor in Hanoi will cost under $1.
  • Icelanders love their hot dogs. Baejarins Beztu Pylsur in Reykjavik is the most popular stand in the country.
