I have never met a destination which didn’t have something to interest me. My first foray abroad was from England to Switzerland on a school trip at the age of 14, and that was the start of a long journey. I am an avid runner. My favourite way of exploring a destination, is to don my running shoes and really get to know a place on foot, even if it means sometimes getting lost!

My advice to other travellers? Always wonder what is around the next corner!

My favourite places

  • Italy

    Europe

If ever there was a country which offers the visitor such an abundance of enjoyable attractions, it has to be Italy. No matter what your interests, you will find it here. Culture? Burgeoning with museums and art galleries, Italy has more than its fair share. History? You can’t go very far without stumbling on an archaeological site or ancient building. Scenery? Try visiting the Amalfi Coast or the Cinque Terre. Music? You can’t miss operatic performances or symphonic concerts wherever you are. Food? Amazing. Wine? Excellent and try a visit to one of the outstanding wine regions. Beaches? All along the Mediterranean Sea and the Adriatic. Volcanoes? Yes, active ones. I close my case.

  • South Africa

    Africa

South Africa has to be one of the most scenically attractive destinations anywhere. It is blessed with a wonderful climate all-year-round. if you can spend two weeks in South Africa, you will enjoy an abundance of different and, sometimes, unusual scenery which will not disappoint you. Cape Town alone is possibly the jewel-in-the-crown with its perfect location between two oceans. The Garden Route is a gift from nature with its coastal scenery. Add to this, the beaches and exotic spice markets of Durban the native traditions found in Zululand and, of course, unparalleled animal viewing in one of the many wildlife game parks. A World in One Country.

  • China

    Asia

When you think of the size of China, it really is a huge country. A first time visitor to China will generally and should head to the attractions in Imperial Beijing, cosmopolitan and contemporary Shanghai, ancient Xian and the amazing scenery in and around Guilin. Exploring China will reveal just how diverse culturally and scenically this country is. You can enjoy a canal ride through scenic Suzhou, ascend one of the 5 sacred mountains, cruise along the Yangtze River with its gorgeous natural scenery surrounding you on all sides, be on top of the world in Lhasa, Tibet and explore the vast landscapes of the Silk Road. You will be immersed in history and culture and, while in China, enjoy its varied but unique cuisine

  • The Outback of Australia is more of a colloquial term than a geographical area referring to the vast, remote, Australian interior. The open spaces seem to stretch forever and reflect Australia’s pioneering spirit and identity.
  • Iguassu Falls is shared by Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay, 2.7 kilometres/1.7 miles long with 275 water cascades and has the largest average annual flow of water than any other waterfall, double that of Niagara Falls.
  • Petra in Jordan is an amazing site. To reach Petra, access is through a narrow gorge,1 kilometre/half a mile long flanked by high cliffs. Eventually, you dramatically arrive at the Treasury Building carved out of the rock face in the First Century AD
