Two New Ways to Discover Colombia

Goway Travel launches new itineraries for exploring Latin America’s most misunderstood destination.

There’s no denying Colombia has stories, and not all of them are happy! Yet were it not for the troubles of its past, this multilayered country would be one of the world’s most popular destinations.

Leaving behind its outdated reputation, today’s Colombia is keen to share itself through stories – and there are many to be found!

Whether they’re wandering the beautiful, history-rich streets of Bogota and Medellin, climbing over pre-Inca ruins, or discovering the pulsing Caribbean rhythms of Cartagena, visitors quickly realize this truly is the home of magical realism, a literary style popularized by Colombian author Gabriel Garcia Marquez, where myth and reality combine to tell a unique and unforgettable tale.

“Lack of knowledge about Colombia, combined with the historic civil conflict, kept travellers away,” says Don Forster, Product and Marketing Manager for Goway’s Latin America division. “All this has changed and Colombia is now one of the most sought after South American destinations”

With interest in travelling the country on the upswing, travellers keen for bragging rights are going now and Goway is proud to announce two new Colombia tours to get them there! Essential Colombia is the definitive introduction to this magical country, while Coast, Coffee, Culture, Colombia takes in all the highlights with a focus on Colombia’s ‘other’ famous export – fine java!

Essential Colombia starts in the capital, Bogota, home to the famous gold museum. It then takes travellers north to the Caribbean coast. The white sands of Santa Marta are an ideal Colombian flop and drop spot. Then it’s on to Cartagena, one of Latin America’s most historic centers. This world heritage city harks back to the height of Spanish colonialism and the days of marauding pirates.

Coast, Coffee, Culture, Colombia also starts in the country’s geographical and cultural heart, Bogota, before heading to Medellin, the ‘City of Eternal Spring’. Having long ago thrown off its ‘storied’ history, Medellin is a hub for travelers and offers some of the best dining and nightlife options in Colombia. Then, it’s off to the coffee region, for tasting before relaxing on the Caribbean coast and exploring historic Cartagena.

There are also options of basic beach stays on the Caribbean coast. Or for the more adventurous, the famous 5 day Trek to the Lost City.
