What’s included in the cost?

Your private air conditioned en-suite cabin with hair dryer and coffee/tea station, shore excursions, all local soft drinks, juices, coffee, tea, mineral water and basic spirits are included throughout the cruise, all meals with house wine, coffee, tea and mineral water and gratuity to crew (no forced tipping) & transfers from set hotels to the pier. 

What forms of payments are offered?

The official currency on board is the Indian Rupee. All charges for services and products on board will be placed on the guests shipboard account to be settled at the end of the voyage. All bills on board the ship will be in Indian rupees, but payment may also be made in USD, Euros or sterling. Payment may be made on board by Visa or Mastercard.

How often do the ship run?

There are set departures which run from November to April.

What makes Rajmahal cruise special?

Rajmahal is very different from other cruise experiences. There is an emphasis on tranquility, friendliness, freedom and care. In addition, Rajmahal has a one to two staff passenger ratio. Plus Rajmahal has a full top deck for public space for passengers to enjoy all around views of the river and sunshine. There are no “cruise only days” – every day there is at least one stop and excursion (subject to river conditions).

What activities/excursions are included off-shore?

Excursions ashore a key part of any river expedition. You’ll stop at least once a day, usually twice. Our expert guides will accompany you on these explorations. All scheduled excursions accompanied by members of the crew with first aid kits and water.

What activities are included on board?

Whilst the peace and tranquility of our passengers is our priority and many passengers prefer to read, write or engage in painting or photography we do have some traditional entertainment onboard.  Enjoy evenings of traditional dance and songs along with a video night as well as lectures on bird life, Indian culture and religion.

What’s the dress code?

Attire is smart casual remember the country you are in – no dressing up is required.

Is there an on-board spa?

Yes. Spa offers head massage, foot massage and body massages in dedicated spa area on the ship.

What about Safety?

Rajmahal has a full time safety officer responsible for emergency drills, safety appliance checks and ship security.

What is the Electricity & Voltage on the ship?

Bathrooms have 220v with 2 round pin international razor sockets. Cabins have sockets for 5 amp and 15 amp with 3 round pin plugs. Adapters sold as suitable for South Africa will fit the 15 amp sockets, while European 2 pin plugs will fit in the 5 amp sockets.

Is there a gift shop Onboard?

Yes. A small gift shop is available for purchases.

What about Laundry service?

Yes. There are laundry facilities available at an additional cost.

Is there Internet or Wifi?

Both in Assam and in Bengal it is possible to rent an internet wireless data card ( INR 100 for 60 mins use), which can be used with clients laptops or in the Manager’s own office computer when available). This works where the signal is strong enough only , IE a good connection is not guaranteed throughout the cruise.

What is the Luggage Restriction?

Maximum baggage allowance is 1 bag per person at a maximum of 20kg. In addition to the main piece of luggage, passengers may also bring a small carry – on bag for the train.

How long is the Train Ride?

We use a public express train for the 4 our train journey from Kolkota to Farraka or vv. The train carriage is in first class seats, and will be air conditioned with cleaners and porters for luggage. Please understand the train travel in India is very basic but you will be accompanied by the Tour Director at all times and the experience will be enriched as you travel like a local. Sandwiches and bottled water will be provided and chicken curry and tea can be purchased onboard.
