For such a small country in the area, Israel is packed with an amazing variety of attractions for the visitor. This compact, colourful country is sandwiched between the Mediterranean Sea and the Jordan River. Just imagine how much history exists, going back to BC, which has left an indelible mark on the country. Add to this the religious interest, the contemporary lifestyles and an economically developed society and you will see the diversity which exists here. Geographically, it is made up of coastlines, mountains, valleys and deserts. Every tree you see was planted in a country where they did not naturally grow.

When visiting Jerusalem, one of the oldest cities in the world, you are aware of the immensely strong atmosphere here. The iconic and amazing Old City completely surrounded by large walls is truly outstanding with its four quarters, Jewish, Christian, Muslim and Armenian, each of which has its own character. Must visits are the Israel Museum with its Dead Sea Scrolls, Yad Vashem, the Holocaust museum, Via Dolorosa, Temple of the Mount with the Western/Wailing Wall, Dome of the Rock and the Garden of Gethsemane just to name a few.

The rapidly growing metropolis of Tel Aviv on the Mediterranean offers excellent shopping, restaurants and nightlife as well as beaches. A side trip to the old scenic port of Jaffa is well worthwhile.

The Dead Sea is the lowest point on earth which explains the density of the salt water which allows you to float on your back without effort. Nearby are two points of interest. The mountaintop fortress, Masada, stunning to see in its desert environment, was the last Jewish holdout before the Roman Empire dominated Israel. The Ein Gedi Nature Reserve is a small oasis in the desert.

In the north, there is Lake Galilee which is an excellent place from which to visit the many Christian religious sites that exist here. Also, an enjoyable way to take in the scenery is a cruise on the lake. Not too far away is Nazareth with its religious significance.

Should a relaxing sojourn be required, the resort of Eilat on the Red Sea is the perfect choice with its coral reefs and golden sand.

You will never depart from Israel without experiencing a lifetime of colourful memories. There is so much to discover in Israel and every minute there will be time well spent.
