Namibia - Culture
When visiting Namibia extended greetings and handshakes are considered very important. In urban areas, many western conventions exist and casual wear is accepted throughout the country. (The exception being when attending formal events). It is best to follow the advice of guides when visiting rural areas and to respect the local cultures and practices. If invited to dine, it is polite to accept food and drink when it is offered.
English is the official language on Namibia despite not being spoken by much of the population. Other languages including Afrikaans, German, Bantu and Khoisan are spoken throughout the country.
Approximately 90% of the population are Christian with the Lutheran religion being the largest denomination. Traditional and indigenous beliefs are also observed.
