Ecuador & Galapagos Islands Weather
Weather in Ecuador varies depending on the region, but is also greatly affected by altitude and the higher up, the colder it gets. There are generally two seasons in Ecuador, a wet season and a dry season, but these differ depending on where one travels.
In the Oriente region, it rains often and April through June tend to experience the most rainfall. August, and then December to March are considered the dry season. The coastal lowlands tend to enjoy warm temperatures that average around 25˚C (77˚F). This part of the country is naturally affected by the ocean currents and as such, it experiences the most rain between January and April. Weather in the Andes depends on altitude, but the climate varies between the eastern and western slopes of the mountains. For the eastern side of the Andes, October to February is the dry season while March to September is the wet season. In contrast, on the western side, June to September make up the dry season and October to May is the wet season.
Quito, the capital city reflects a subtropical highland climate but also experiences a dry season (summer) from June to September and a wet season (winter) from October to May.
