Social Conventions

In Guyana, informal wear is standard with people only dressing formally for official functions. Time in Guyana is very relaxed and this extends to transportation schedules.  For the Guyanese people, relationships are more important than punctuality and hospitality is very important.

 

Language

Guyana is the only country in South America where English is the official language.  Other languages spoken in the country include Creole, Hindi, Urdu and Amerindian dialects.

 

Religion

The dominant religions in Guyana are Christianity, Hinduism and Islam.
