What language is spoken in Panama?

The official language and most dominant language spoken in the country is Spanish. There are indigenous languages, such as Ngabere, still spoken that can be heard in more rural areas.   

Is English spoken in Panama?

English is definitely more widely spoken in Panama compared to many of its neighbouring countries, especially in more touristy areas. Learning some basic Spanish is still encouraged if travelling to more rural areas as not all locals speak English. 

What currency is used in Panama?

The US dollar is the official currency used in Panama. You may encounter Panamanian coins (Balboa) as they are still in circulation but they are used at a 1:1 ratio with US currency 

Do I need a visa to travel to Panama?

Citizens from the United States and Canada do not require a visa for up to 180 days. Passports must be valid for a minimum of 3 months from the date of entry. 

When is the best time to travel to Panama?

The best and most popular time to visit Panama is from December to April as it is the driest time of year.  

Is there transportation within Panama?

In Panama City, you have subways, buses, taxis, and Uber. Hiring private cars is also another option. To travel within Panama there are land options by bus and also air depending on where you go.

Is Panama a family friendly destination?

Panama is a family-friendly destination as there is plenty to see and do throughout the country for people of all ages, with plenty of family-friendly hotels, beach destinations and interesting attractions such as the Panama Canal. It's also easy and convenient to get around and the locals are friendly and helpful.

How welcoming is Panama to LGBTQ travellers and families?

Overall, Panama is an LGTBQ-friendly destination when travelling within more touristy areas like Panama City and Bocas del Toro. Although same-sex sexual activity has been legal since 2008, it is recommended to take extra care when travelling to more rural areas throughout the country.
