Best Time to Visit Portugal
Any time is good in Portugal but it is a matter of personal taste. In the cities and in the north, the summer is generally very hot and not the ideal time for walking around. The best months weather-wise are May and October for active vacations. Most of the rain falls in the winter between November and January. Spring comes early around Late February. June is when the two largest religious festivals take place, Santo Antonio and Sao Joao.
The Algarve is mild in the winter. However, September and October are usually the best times to go to southern Portugal as sea temperatures are still warm and beaches are a lot less crowded. July and August are exceptionally busy in the Algarve but there are many resorts to choose from. Portugal makes a great off-season destination. Winters bring crisp sunshine and blue skies to Central Portugal and mild weather to the southern coast.
