The climate of the Falkland Islands is cool and temperate and is regulated by the oceans that surround them. Located in the southern hemisphere, the seasons in the Falklands are the opposite of those in the northern hemisphere. Spring is from October to November with average high temperatures ranging between 9-11˚C (48-51.8˚F). Summer occurs from December to March and while not hot, these months enjoy long hours of sunshine. Autumn happens in April and experiences cooler temperatures and less sunshine. Winters don’t tend to be severe and run from May to September. It snows during most winter months, but the snow does not stay long due to the wind.
The wind on the islands can be strong and while there are set seasons, it has been said that one can experience all four seasons in a day. Rainfall in the Falklands is relatively low, averaging approximately 626 mm (24 in) annually, however, it tends to be wetter in the east than in the west. Maximum temperatures in the islands rarely reach over 24˚C (75˚F).
