Your journey takes you by plane from Nairobi to the Masai Mara Airstrip, where you’ll connect to nearby Cottar’s 1920 Camp, a 5-star property set only 1km from the famous game reserve. Located on its own 6,000ac private conservancy, Cottar’s 1920 Camp is a Goway Stay of Distinction and transports travellers back to the Golden Age of Travel with its 10 luxury tents and charming atmosphere. On your first evening at Cottar’s, head on a game drive to spot predators heading out for the hunt. Once the sun begins to dip below the horizon, enjoy sundowners with your guide and fellow travellers.
You’ll have two full days at Cottar’s to head on full-day game drives and explore the majesty of Masai Mara National Reserve. Each morning, wake up early to head into the park in search of elephants, rhinos, and lions. At lunchtime, you’ll retire to the shade of an acacia tree to enjoy your meal in sight of bathing hippos or bounding gazelles. You’ll then continue your game drive in the afternoon to spot predators like cheetahs and lions hunting in the cooling climate. In the early evening, you have a great chance to spot rhinos as well. You’ll then retire to the camp to enjoy dinner in the mess tent and an evening under the stars of East Africa.
On your final morning, enjoy one final game drive before connecting to the Masai Mara Airstrip to fly back to Nairobi. This safari makes for a great add-on to a longer journey through East Africa.

Nairobi to Masai Mara
Fly from Nairobi's Wilson Airport to the Masai Mara Airstrip.
On arrival you will be met by a member of the Cottar's 1920 Camp staff and transferred to the Camp.
At around 4.30pm, begin to explore the Conservancy, as the cooling temperature brings out the predators. Lion-kills are often fought over by packs of hyenas, jackals and other scavengers. Yet these life and death scenes are juxtaposed with the impossible beauties of the African sunset, as nature’s ever-changing palette streaks the sky with orange, red and gold.
Anticipating sunset, your guide will have stopped to prepare sundowners, with a wide choice of drinks. Enjoy your favourite as you ease back in your chair and watch light shift to dark, heat give way to the chill, and another day at Cottar's fades towards a close.

The Camp has its own 6,000 acre private conservancy and is situated one kilometre from the Masai Mara game reserve. The location provides easy access for day and night game drives to the Masai Mara game reserve.
The camp has 10 tents in total (one unique honeymoon tent, five double tents and four family suites), all with ensuite bathrooms. The family tents have living rooms with fireplaces. The entire camp is situated to ensure that tents are private and quiet whether for honeymooners or families with young children.
The camp has two main mess tent areas for fine dining, drinking, reading and relaxing. An exciting new addition is an amazing pool and spa area where guests can relax after a game drive.Facilities

Cottar's 1920 Camp
Full day game drives depart at 7.00 am, with your 4×4 fully-equipped to cross the Mara plains in search of game. At 1800 metres above sea level it can get cold before the sun rises fully, so we provide blankets and hot water bottles to keep you warm.
By midday it can become very hot indeed and sun-block lotion and hats are advised. Lunch is served under the shade of an Acacia tree or overlooking the snorting hippos which wallow in the Mara River.
As the afternoon draws to a close and the temperature cools, the shadows lengthen and the Bush changes once more. Evening sightings of rhino are not uncommon on the way back to camp. Even a bad day is a good day in the Mara, since undoubtedly you will have encountered vistas, flora and fauna new to you. Return to camp and enjoy dinner in one of the two mess tents or perhaps enjoy your evening meal in the bush.

Masai Mara to Nairobi
The Mara is at its most active first thing in the morning. With the sun rising at around 6.00 am, this means an early start to your day. The reward is likely to be sight of predators who avoid the heat: additional attractions include subtle light on the landscape and the joyous sounds of awakening birds. Having been fortified with coffee and tea, you return for a hearty breakfast at the camp after 9.00 am.
Following breakfast bid farewell to Cottar's 1920 Camp and transfer to the Mara Airstrip for your 40 minute flight to Nairobi's Wilson Airport and the next stop on your Kenya vacation.
