An African safari touches something deep within all of us, for it is an experience that will never be forgotten. Explore some of the finest national parks and game reserves in Kenya and Tanzania, with expert guides on hand to help bring to fruition the Africa safari you’ve always dreamed of. At a moderate price point, this small-group trip is great for solo travellers too.

From the Masai Mara to Kilimanjaro, Kenya and Tanzania are two lands filled with awesome wonders of nature. Begin this 13-day African safari in Nairobi, travelling through the region’s most famous parks and reserves before disembarking in Arusha.

Touch down in Nairobi and take a night to shake off the jetlag before taking off to the Masai Mara. With Kenya’s largest concentration of big cats, the Mara is a place to see not just the raw beauty of nature in East Africa, but meet the Masai people, who have thrived here for centuries. Your next destination is Lake Nakuru, another of Kenya’s natural highlights across the plains of the Rift Valley. Nakuru is a place to admire a vast range of bird life, including its legendary flamingos. You can also spot both black and white rhinos, alongside the endangered Rothschild Giraffe.

Next up, go in search of the big tuskers of Amboseli National Park, at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro. You’ll have to look sharp to see the region’s predators, but you won’t find a larger concentration of elephants anywhere else in East Africa. After a full day here, cross the Tanzanian border, bound for Lake Manyara, a small treasure trove of the country’s wildlife containing no less than 11 distinct ecosystems. Your journey then leads through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Don’t worry if you don’t see too much. You’ll be coming back for a longer visit in a couple of days.

Serengeti National Park may be the most famous wildlife region in all of Africa, offering sightings of elephants, hippo, giraffe, zebra, lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, and more. It’s an immense and impressive landscape that may well be the centrepiece of your trip. You’ll then swing back to the Ngorongoro Crater for a more in-depth look at the sheltered landscape, which supports a wide range of diverse wildlife across its various regions.

The last night of your African safari is spent at Tarangire, a fantastic birding spot that also supports all the classic species you came to see, with a particularly large population of big cats. Round Kilimanjaro’s base to meet your flight in Arusha. Driving through local villages and towns along the way lets you see a slice of local life before you depart.
