See the many wonders of Cairo and the Nile on this ideal introduction to Egypt. Start in Cairo where you’ll see the Great Pyramid and Sphinx. Then fly to Luxor and board a Nile cruise to visit the Aswan High Dam, the Temple of Luxor, and the Valley of the Kings and Queens.

This 6-day Egyptian vacation takes you to the country’s most popular sites. It features moderate accommodations, locally-escorted tours, and is perfect for solo travellers or anyone wanting to explore Egypt on an affordable itinerary.

Your Egypt tour begins in Cairo, the capital of Egypt and the largest city in the Middle East. Cairo is large, crowded, and a little overwhelming to first-time visitors, but that’s only because it’s bursting at the seams with history. Spend a day on a sightseeing tour to see some of the most popular sites in the city, starting at the Great Pyramid of Giza and the enigmatic Sphinx before heading to Tahrir Square to visit the Egyptian Museum and see all manner of artworks, artefacts, and mummies, including treasures taken from the Tomb of King Tutankhamun. From Cairo, fly to Aswan, which lies off the usual tourist paths. In Aswan, you’ll board a river cruise vessel to begin your cruise down the Nile River.

The first stop on your cruise is the Nubian Museum, where you can stroll through 50,000 square metres of gardens and museums to see obelisks, Roman frescoes, and ancient Egyptian statues. The next day, journey to the High Dam, which dams the Nile and creates the world’s largest artificial reservoir, Lake Nasser, before visiting the Philae Temple and the ancient stone quarries that supplied the stone for the pyramids. After overnighting on the river near Edfu, continue to Luxor, where you’ll explore a town that’s essentially an open-air museum. Stroll through the famous Temple of Karnak and marvel at the dedication to the god Amun at the Temple of Luxor. The next day, venture in the Valley of the Kings and Queens to see elaborate tombs of the pharaohs and ponder what it must’ve felt like for Howard Carter to discover Tutankhamun’s tomb in 1922. You’ll then disembark and fly back to Cairo to end your journey through Egypt.
