Escape on a Ugandan safari to spot mountain gorillas in one of their last remaining natural habitats. Touch down in Entebbe to get acquainted with the country before heading to Bwindi National Park for encounters with mountain gorillas and Queen Elizabeth National Park to spot lions and hippos in the wild.

This 6-day tour takes you to two of Uganda’s best national parks in search of gorillas and other incredible wildlife.

Your Ugandan vacation begins in Entebbe, a city on the banks of Lake Victoria that offers a relaxed introduction to the country. Stroll along the popular Lido Beach or head to the Entebbe Botanical Garden before heading southwest to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, near the borders of the Congo.

Bwindi is defined by its steep mountains and verdant jungles. The park abounds with animal diversity, containing 120 species of mammals and 350 species of birds. Chief among these animals are the 340 mountain gorillas who call the park home. Spend your time in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park heading on gorilla tracking expeditions, seeing these incredible and endangered gorillas up close and gaining insight into their daily habits.

After spending your days with mountain gorillas, head north to Queen Elizabeth National Park, one of Uganda’s most popular nature reserves. Head out on safari excursions to encounter hippos, elephants, lions, leopards, chimps, and hyenas. Dip down to Isasha in the southern reaches of the park to spot a lioness sleeping in the branches of a fig tree and to cruise down the Kazinga Channel to see the park from the vantage of the water.

If you dream of having a close encounter with a mountain gorilla, this Ugandan safari is your ideal jungle adventure.

The Boma Lodge is set in a leafy suburb, a few minutes' drive from Entebbe International Airport and is ideal for stopovers. The Boma Lodge consists of fifteen bedrooms all of which combine the modern comforts one expects today with the charm and character of the original 1940's home. All the rooms are individually decorated in a mixture of African and European decor, and have been designed to reflect the original colonial architecture. The rooms do vary, but most include four-poster beds with mosquito nets, private verandah, ensuite bathroom, satellite TV, international power points, safes and wireless internet connection. A residents' and diners' bar set in landscaped gardens with lake views provide a charming and relaxed "country house" experience.

Day 3

Gorilla Trekking

Following breakfast at the lodge, travel to National Park Headquarters to meet your guides for the day and begin your gorilla tracking experience. Experienced guides and trackers will accompany your party on an early morning trek into the dense rain forest on the mountain slopes. The journey, through dense foliage and up steep climbs, is abundantly rewarded with the lifetime experience of viewing mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. You will have an opportunity to be within meters of these magnificent apes, sharing in their daily lives and experiencing their day-to-day activities. Mountain gorillas are extremely rare with only an estimated 880 remaining in the wild. This is an experience you won't soon forget!

Following the trek, return to your accommodation and, if time allows, take a guided afternoon forest or community walk. These are additional activities that may be booked and paid for direct. Please note: tracking may be fairly strenuous with treks up to six hours or longer, at high altitudes, not uncommon. Also, mountain gorillas are wild animals and, as such, sightings cannot be guaranteed. However viewing success rates are over 90%.

It is a home to a variety of wildlife including elephant, lion, hippo, buffalo, and Uganda kob, baboon, and birds, all typical of riverine and savannah habitats. In the southern part of the park is the Ishasha are with tree climbing lions and the Maramagambo, one of the largest surviving natural forests in Uganda. The northern part of the park is traversed by the equator and is dominated by the scenery of crater lakes with lots of flamingos on some of them. A launch trip from Mweya along the Kazinga channel, which joins Lake Edward and Lake George, provides one of the most memorable experiences of the park.
