Day 2

Cape Town at leisure

Mother Nature surpassed herself when crafting the Mother City. Whether jogging along Sea Point Promenade, climbing up Lion's Head in the dawn light, clambering over giant boulders at Sandy Bay or driving the amazing coastal roads down to Cape Point, you never fail to feel your spirits soar as you take in the breathtakingly beautiful vistas. You don't need to break a sweat; sipping wine on a historic farm in Constantia or enjoying a picnic at an outdoor concert in Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens are equally memorable ways to commune with Cape Town's great outdoors. Wrenching yourself away from the magnetic mountain and all the delights of the Cape Peninsula is a challenge, but within an hour you can exchange urban landscapes for the charming towns, villages and bucolic estates of Winelands destinations such as Stellenbosch and Franschhoek.

Cape Town - Lalibela Game Reserve

This morning after a sumptuous breakfast we travel back to Cape Town International Airport to board an onward flight to Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape. Here we transfer through to Lalibela Game Reserve where you will be spending the next three nights.

Upon arrival at the lodge, your lodge manager will give you a welcome and a "do's" and "don't" talk - your lodge is in the Big 5 area and your safety is one of their primary concerns. Lunch is served at your lodge in the afternoon after which you depart on your first game drive, a sunset drive, returning after nightfall for a safari cuisine dinner. After dinner, you will have the opportunity to sit around the fire, have a drink and to chat with your ranger and other guests. The following morning you have an early morning wake-up call and a light breakfast is served before your early morning game drive begins. You will return from your morning game drive in time for a delight brunch. You then have time to relax between brunch and afternoon high tea, this is the time to have a sleep, lie at the pool or read a book!

Tree Tops Safari Lodge differs from our other lodges in that it is a tented camp. The luxury safari tents perched high on thatched platforms at tree top level are joined by raised walkways and offer spectacular views over the thickly-wooded valley. The rooms, with their canvas walls and thatched roofs, have huge window areas and give guests the feeling of being right in the bush. Each air-conditioned room has a private veranda where guests can sit and relax in privacy. As with our other lodges, Tree Tops Safari Lodge has a large lounge and open-air dining deck with a view over a small waterhole. Guests can sunbathe around the swimming pool or relax in the shaded gazebo. Special care and consideration was taken during the construction of Tree Tops to minimise the impact on the pristine vegetation in the valley. Tree Tops Safari Lodge sleeps 10 people in 5 rooms.

Day 6

Lalibela Game Reserve

Naturally the game-viewing is one of the most important aspects to a safari stay and in this respect the lodge is governed by the rhythm and times of nature. Since predators are generally inactive during the daytime, most hunting is done in the early hours of the morning and late in the evening and because this is the time when predators are most active, the antelope also follow these times - they relax in the shade in the daytime and are alert and active in the early mornings and late evenings.
