Highlights of the Western Cape Self-Drive: Cape Town, Cederberg Mountains, Paternoster & More

Welcome to Cape Town! After clearing customs and collecting your bags, you will be met by your local representative and directed to the car rental pick up desk. Drive to your hotel with the remainder of the day at leisure.

This morning you will be collected from your hotel. You drive along the exquisite stretch of coastline known as Millionaire's Paradise - from Clifton to Camps Bay, to the exclusive beach hamlet of Llandudno - towards the charming working harbour of Hout Bay. Wind along the legendary Chapman's Peak Drive, hugging the cliffs and relishing the breath-taking ocean views, before visiting the wild and beautiful Cape of Good Hope Section of the Table Mountain National Park, an integral part of the world-renowned Cape Floral Kingdom. After lunch (own account), you meander along the coast and end your day at the penguin colony at Boulder's Beach, where you get to watch these entertaining, waddling characters before returning to Cape Town late this afternoon.

This morning you will be picked up from your hotel for a half-day Cape Town City tour. No visit to Cape Town is complete without a tour of the "Mother City". Sense the depth of history as you drive past Parliament Buildings, City Hall and the Slave Lodge before stopping for a short visit of the Castle of Good Hope (optional), originally built as a maritime replenishment station and now the oldest surviving colonial building in South Africa! Alternatively, walk around the Grand Parade square which has its own historical significance. You will hear of the brief history of District Six en-route to a visit at the Company Gardens where we walk through the landscaped gardens. Learn more about the history of the Bo-Kaap and its people as you move up the cobblestoned hills to the Malay Quarter, and marvel at the ice-cream colours of the quaint Bo-Kaap homes. Trace the moves of a professional diamond cutter as he creates every girl's dream stone with a visit to a diamond cutting factory. After learning more about the history of diamonds and gold in South Africa, drive past the V & A Waterfront, Cape Town Stadium, Sea Point, Clifton and Camps Bay enroute to Table Mountain where you have the option of either admiring the views from the lower cable station or heading to the summit (Ticket included). After delighting in this photo opportunity, return to the hotel or stay on top of the mountain and find your own way back to your hotel.

Start your day with a drive from Cape Town to Wellington. The scenic route takes you through rolling hills, vineyards, and fruit orchards. Stop at a local farm stall to taste some of the delicious produce grown in the area (own account). Continue your drive to Wellington, a charming town known for its wine production.

Spend the day exploring the quaint town of Wellington and its surroundings. Why not visit one of the many wine estates in the area to taste some of the world-renowned wines produced here (for own account). In the afternoon, why not go for a hike in the nearby hills.

Depart Wellington for the Cederberg Mountains, a rugged range of peaks and valleys that offer breathtaking views and a rich cultural heritage. A potential stop enroute Stop at the Sanddrif Farm Stall to pick up some local produce and learn about the area's history. Continue to the Cederberg Mountains, where you'll spend the next few days exploring the natural beauty and rich cultural heritage of this unique region at Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve and Wellness Retreat.

Spend the day exploring the Region. Your lodge offers a host of wonderful experiences (own account) including a guided rock art tour to learn about the history and cultural significance of the area (highly recommends. Alternatively, you may choose to experience the area on your own. Go for a hike or a scenic drive to see the famous rock formations, crystal-clear streams, and diverse wildlife. Visit the Cederberg Wilderness Area, where you can hike to ancient rock art sites and see the unique flora and fauna of the area. In the evening, relax at your comfortable and peaceful accommodations.

A second full day to explore the Cederberg Mountains.

Start your day with a drive from the Cederberg Mountains to the charming fishing village of Paternoster. Enjoy the scenic route as you make your way through rolling hills and picturesque coastline. Stop at the historic town of Darling, known for its wildflowers in spring and rich cultural heritage.

Upon arrival in Paternoster, check into your accommodation and take some time to settle in. This charming village is known for its traditional fisherman's cottages, white sandy beaches, and colorful boats.

In the afternoon, go for a walk along the beach to see the rugged coastline and watch the fishing boats come in. Stop at one of the local seafood restaurants or how about a dinner at Wolfgat - an award-winning restaurant, offering a one-of-a-kind experience with maximum 20 people per sitting (reservations are essential).

In the evening, watch the sunset over the ocean and relax in the peaceful atmosphere of Paternoster. Enjoy a night of stargazing, as the clear skies offer breathtaking views of the stars.
