Duration
9 Days
Prices From:
US$ 1,551

From the magnificent Nabataean city of Petra to the spectacular Greco-Roman ruins of Jerash and Lawrence of Arabia’s famous Wadi Rum, the unique Kingdom of Jordan will enthrall you.

A colourful desert land with an epic history and some of the world’s most famous historic sights, Jordan is an essential adventure. This 9-day trip takes you to all the highlights, including Wadi Rum, the Dead Sea and Petra.

The 20th century saw the humble town of Amman explode to become a thriving, complex city. With historic sights like the Roman Theatre and King Abdullah Mosque, Jordan’s capital is an ideal place to begin your adventure. You’ll also visit nearby Ajloun Castle, which protected the country from attack during the Crusades.

After spending a free day in Amman, set out for Mount Nebo, with breathtaking views over the River Jordan and the Dead Sea (Yes, you can float!). Visit Mabada, the city of mosaics and see the exquisite map covering the floor of St George Greek Orthodox Church. This is said to be the oldest map of the Holy Land in existence.

Make an early start for Petra, the symbol of Jordan. Make your way through the Siq to see the rock-cut architecture of the Treasury, the Street of Facades and the Amphitheater. Then head out to visit Wadi Rum, the breathtaking, almost alien desert landscape made famous by Lawrence of Arabia.

The seaside city of Aqaba brings your Jordan adventure to a relaxing end. Lay by the pool, go snorkeling or scuba diving, or continue exploring the ruins in this unique city. Get a few shots of the majestic surrounding desert before your return to Amman.

Your day starts with a drive to the Roman city of Jerash, about an hour journey, visiting Maximus Cardo, the main colonnaded street which is flanked by temples, churches, theaters & endless mosaics. This ancient city boasts unbroken chain of human occupation dating back more than 6500 years. The city's golden age came under Roman rule and the site is generally acknowledged to be one of the best preserved Roman provincial towns in the world. Only 20 minutes' drive away, you will visit Ajlun Castle which is an awe-inspiring Islamic fortress that withstood the power of the Crusader armies in the 12th Century. Amman

Today is a free day in Amman, to explore the capital at leisure. Amman is situated in a hilly area between the desert and the fertile Jordan Valley and the contrasts between old and new is unique. The commercial heart of the city, has ultra-modern buildings, hotels, restaurants, art galleries and boutiques which rub shoulders comfortably with traditional coffee shops and artisan's workshops. There is evidence of the city's much older past everywhere you turn.

Day 4

Madaba, Nebo and Petra

Starting the day with breakfast at hotel, you will need to be checked out by 9am for your pick up by your driver. You will start your touring with a drive to visit Mount Nebo which is about a 45 minute drive from Amman; the mountaintop memorial where Moses was buried and the most revered holy site in Jordan. When atop this mountain, you will be able to see, the vast panorama that encompasses the Jordan River Valley, the Dead Sea, Jericho and Jerusalem, often referred to as the Holyland. A small Byzantine church was built there by early Christians, and six tombs have been hollowed out of the rock beneath the mosaic-covered floor. A short 15 minute drive onwards takes you to Madaba, which is known for its spectacular Byzantine and Umayyad mosaics and dubbed the city of Mosaics.

Madaba is home to the famous 6th century Mosaic Map of Jerusalem and the Holy Land. With two million pieces of vividly colored local stone, it depicts hills and valleys, villages and towns as far as the Nile Delta. The church was built in 1896 AD, over the remains of a much earlier 6th century Byzantine church. The mosaic panel enclosing the Map was originally around 15.6 X 6m, 94 square meters, only about a quarter of which is preserved. After your visit you proceed onto Petra which is approximately a 3.5 hours journey.

Day 5

Petra and Wadi Rum

After breakfast at your hotel you will start your visit of Petra, which is without doubt Jordan's most valuable treasure and greatest tourist attraction. It is a vast, unique city, carved into the sheer rock face by the Nabateans, an industrious Arab people who settled here more than 2000 years ago, turning it into an important junction for the silk, spice and other trade routes that linked China, India and southern Arabia with Egypt, Syria, Greece and Rome. Entrance to the city is through the Siq, a narrow gorge, over 1 kilometre in length, which is flanked on either side by soaring, 80 metre high cliffs.

The colors and formations of the rocks are dazzling and just walking through the Siq is an experience in itself. As you reach the end of the Siq you will catch your first glimpse of Al-Khazneh which is the Treasury. A massive façade, 30m wide and 43m high, carved out of the sheer, dusky pink, rock-face and dwarfing everything around it. It was carved in the early 1st century as the tomb of an important Nabatean king and represents the engineering genius of these ancient people. At the end of the tour, you will walk back to site entrance and continue with a drive to Wadi Rum that includes a Jeep tour in the desert, which is about a 2 hour drive from Petra. This excursion includes Lawrence Spring and Khazalee Mountain and the total duration is about 2hrs. Thereafter you continue onto Aqaba the city on the Red Sea, only an hour from Wadi Rum.
