Luxurious Cape & Kalahari

Duration
9 Days
Prices From:
US$ 6,680

Discover South Africa in style, including beautiful Cape Town and the wilds of the Kalahari.

This 9-day luxury adventure through South Africa starts in Cape Town, one of the world’s most beautiful cities, before taking you to spectacular Kalahari Desert.

South Africa’s ‘Mother City’ sits at the foot of Table Mountain, overlooking one of the world’s most beautiful bays. You’ll take a cable car to the summit to enjoy the view. Then enjoy a tour through the city’s historic sights including the cobble-stoned Malay Quarter. Get a taste of South Africa’s increasingly popular wine culture in the Robertson Wine Valley, which offers 47 wineries, cheese shops and cruises on the Breede River. You’ll also visit a famous Klipdrift Brandy Distillery. On your return to Cape Town, a day at leisure lets you explore the city at your own pace. You may wish to visit Robben Island, the former political prison that once held Nelson Mandela.

Transfer to Tswalu Kalahari Game Reserve, where your luxury accommodation blends seamlessly into the stunning landscape. The name ‘Kalahari Desert’ is something of a misnomer. This is one of the richest wildlife regions in Africa, as you’ll see on an open safari drive. Keep a look out for lions, buffalo, rhinos, leopards, and over 230 species of birds. The Kalahari also boast unique creatures such as Desert Black Rhino, and its own subspecies of lion. On your two days at leisure, you may wish to venture out on additional game drives, or be pampered at the fully equipped on-site spa.

Spend the morning getting acquainted with the 'Mother City' as it is affectionately known by the locals and take a cable car to the summit of the legendary Table Mountain (own account and weather permitting) with views of the City and surrounding layout of the southernmost tip of Africa. Visit the country's oldest building, The Castle, and a short distance away, the Company Gardens, both historically fascinating and well conserved. Your drive continues past Parliament Buildings, City Hall and the Slave Lodge, and you'll sense the depth of history via their distinctive architecture. Move up the cobble-stoned hills to the Malay Quarter, and marvel at the ice-cream colours of the quaint Bo-Kaap homes. Head out to Robertson on this unforgettable day travelling via Paarl and Worcester. The Robertson Wine Valley has so much to offer, including free wine tasting at any of the 47 wineries, Olive Tours and Tasting, Cheese shops, and a short river cruise on the Breede River. The Breede River is the lifeline of the area by supporting the main industry, agriculture, and there is plenty to do on and around the river. The town is also home to the famous Brandy Distillery called Klipdrift. Brandy was first distilled in this area in 1938. Pop in for a distillery tour and brandy tasting and get an idea of how brandy is made. Remember to stop by at least one of the 'padstalle' offering local goods to nibble on, on your way back.
