Staying at game lodges in Zambia and a chic island lodge in Malawi, you’ll spend your days tracking leopards and lions and engaging with the incredible environments of this African region.

This 8-day vacation takes you to game lodges in Zambia and an island lodge on Lake Malawi.

Your Zambia vacation begins in South Luangwa National Park, one of the greatest animal sanctuaries in the world. Staying in one of four thatched rooms at Bilimungwe Bushcamp on the Luangwa River, you’ll enjoy organic elegance and style as you relax before and after invigorating days in the bush. At the camp’s iconic lounge, which sits overlooking three waterholes, you can watch wildlife gather in the evening and enjoy a cocktail or cigar. During the days, you’ll spend your time tracking wildlife in the park, which is famous for its abundance of rare animals including leopards. One of Bilimungwe’s greatest features is that is boasts the services of resident guide, Manda Chisanga, a game expert renowned the world over. From Bilimungwe Bushcamp, transfer to Zungulila Bushcamp, with its charming evocation of the past and its prime location in an untouched area of Lunagwa where elephants, lions, and buffalo abound.

After exploring South Luangwa National Park, pass into Malawi and head to Likoma Island, the chic spot situated on the massive lake that covers a fifth of the country. Likoma Island is considered one of the “Top 10 Most Romantic Spots in the World’ according to Conde Nast Traveler. As such, it’s a great place to soak in charming atmosphere and explore the gorgeous landscape. Staying at Kaya Mawa at the southern tip of the island, you’ll stay amongst mango trees, baobabs, and long beaches perfect for lounging. Take advantage of the water to paddle board, kayak, kitesurf, or sail. If you want to keep dry, visit nearby markets or textile workshops to get a feel for the island’s daily rhythms.

This Zambia and Malawi vacation is an ideal combination of a wildlife safari and a romantic island stay.

It's hard not to be seduced by the charm of Bilimungwe. Here, the traditions of the African bushcamp meet elegance and style to create a stunning camp that feels like it has grown organically out of the surrounding landscape. Set beneath a huge mahogany tree, the heart of Bilimungwe is the cool, shady lounge area that looks out over one of the camp's three waterholes. Bilimungwe's four raised thatched rooms have been carefully designed to ensure the height of comfort whilst still retaining that authentic bushcamp feel. The tangle of mature mahogany trees that surround camp are echoed in the rich, wood interiors and the beautiful wooden furniture, handmade by local artisans.
