Mountain Gorilla Encounter 4 Day: Kigali & Volcanoes National Park

Duration
4 Days
Prices From:
US$ 5,314

DELUXE | PRIVATE-GUIDED: Spend 4 days in the area made famous by Dian Fossey, the home of the world’s last surviving mountain gorilla population. Be one of only a few to see these gorillas in their own habitat.

For most travellers, a trip to Rwanda means tracking gorillas. However, only 8 permits are issued each day to visit each of the 5 families habituated for tourists. The trek can be strenuous for many, but the reward is nothing short of transformative. Gorillas are sighted by over 90% of visitors, many of whom will get within metres of a family.

Spend 4 days walking in the footsteps of Dian Fossey in Volcanoes National Park. You’ll also visit the Genocide Museum for a sobering look at Rwanda's brutal recent history.

Day 2

Kigali to Ruhengeri via a Kigali City Tour and Genocide Museum Visit

After breakfast, check out and depart for Ruhengeri. Enroute, you will have your tour of Kigali and visit to the Genocide Museum.

The Kigali City Tour offers you an in-depth view of Kigali, past and present, bringing you the genuine heartbeat of the city. The city, which is inhabited by one million people, is divided into three districts, Gasabo, Kicukiro and Nyarugenge. Founded in 1907 as a German settlement, Kigali did not become the capital until Rwanda's independence in 1962 when it replaced the colonial seat of power in Butare. The Kigali City Tour begins as a historic journey through the city with a guided tour from the first modern building from which the capital city was first founded, to the rapidly growing neighbourhood's that are changing the face of the city.

The Genocide Memorial site is a grim reminder of the senseless massacre of innocent's lives in 1994. The memorial is the final resting places for more than 250 000 victims of the Genocide against the Tutsi, a place for remembrance and learning. The Memorial also sheds light on other massacres including Cambodia, the Balkans and the Holocaust. Rwanda's recovery, growth and development is incredible, a true testament to humankind's resilience.

After your tour you will be transferred to Ruhengeri with drop off at the lodge of your choice.
