Zambia is Africa’s dark horse, seeing fewer tourists than its neighbours, yet blessed with some of the continent’s richest natural habitats. See it before the tourists catch up! This unique 9 day safari through South Luangwa National Park allows you to get up close with Africa’s biggest stars, including elephants, buffalo, hippos and the Park’s famous Thornicroft’s Giraffes.

Early morning and late afternoon game drives let you see the animals at their most active. During the day, you may request a walking safari in the company of an experienced guide. Three permanent waterholes surround your first camp, Bilimungwe, so your viewing can continue from the comforts of home base. The next camp, Zungulila is perfectly located with breathtaking views of the Kapamba River, where natural springs attract many large herds. Guides here will lead you on foot to seek out buffalo and elephants. Game drives are also available.

Both camps blend seamlessly with their natural surroundings, while offering you hot running water and cosy furnishings to create the perfect balance between creatures and creature comforts.

Day 1

Mfuwe Lodge

You will be met at Lusaka airport and a local Goway representative will assist you in connecting to your flight to Mfuwe. On arrival at Mfuwe Airport, you will be met by your lodge representative for your transfer to the Mfuwe Game Lodge, travelling through the scenic rural landscape. On arrival enjoy a welcome drink before checking in to your luxury thatched chalet, set beneath a canopy of ebony and mahogany. Secluded covered verandas look out over wallowing hippo and thirsty game in the lagoons, while the newly refurbished African interiors are the perfect place to wind down with their comfortable sitting rooms and en-suite bathrooms with panoramic walk-in showers.

This afternoon set out on your first game drive into the South Luangwa. This region of the park is renowned for its prolific game - giraffe, buffalo, antelope and crocodile are constant visitors to Mfuwe Lodge's lagoon. Drives are led by our experienced team of guides, and the late afternoon is when the wildlife is at its most active. Day 2

Bilimungwe Bushcamp

Early morning game drive with your professional guide, experiencing the early morning light as the game emerges from their night spent in the safety of the deeper bush. The game-viewing potential at Mfuwe Lodge and the surrounding area is second-to-none. Walking safaris can be arranged on request, but the majority of outings are game drives, allowing guests to explore as much of this prolific region of the Luangwa Valley as possible.

Return to your lodge in the mid-morning with time to freshen up and enjoy an al fresco lunch on the deck, before boarding your open Land Rover for the start of your Bushcamps safari, game viewing en route to your first overnight camp. Heading south and skirting the Luangwa River, arrive at your first bushcamp in the early afternoon, Bilimungwe. Warm and welcoming, this beautiful camp blends seamlessly with its surroundings and offers unrivalled wildlife viewings.

Bilimungwe's four raised thatched rooms have been carefully designed to ensure the height of comfort whilst still retaining that authentic bushcamp feel. The tangle of mature mahogany trees that surround camp are echoed in the rich, wood interiors and the beautiful wooden furniture, handmade by local artisans. Bright African textiles bring a splash of colour to the elegant rooms. Set beneath a huge mahogany tree, the heart of Bilimungwe is the cool, shady lounge area that looks out over one of the camp's three waterholes. Settle down in a cosy armchair with a sundowner and relax as you watch an enviable display of spectacular birds and animals that clearly feel as comfortable here as you do.
