North Pole: The Ultimate Arctic Adventure

Duration
14 Days
Prices From:
US$ 30,590

Experience a unique and remote part of the world spending two weeks on the world’s largest and most powerful ice breaker sailing in comfort through awe inspiring landscapes. Add to this a visit to the enigmatic North Pole.

See the sidebar on the left, for full ship information.

This amazing journey to the North Pole is only possible during the summer months and will be an experience never to be forgotten.

Arrive in Helsinki and spend the night here before flying on a chartered flight to Murmansk in Northern Russia. Here you will board your home for the next two weeks, the “50 Years of Victory”, the world’s largest and most powerful icebreaker. This nuclear-powered small ship is a true expedition vessel, equipped with an onboard helicopter for spectacular aerial sightseeing and a fleet of Zodiacs for shore transfers and landings, both extending the vessel's ability to reach ice-locked, remote Arctic islands.

The ship breaks through ice up to 10 feet thick.

“50 Years of Victory” carries 128 passengers and provides ample public space: featuring an Aft Saloon and Forward Lounge, in addition to a bar, library and single-seating dining room. The Aft Saloon converts from a presentation room during the day to a place to dance and socialize in the evening. For relaxing, there is an indoor pool and two saunas.

Immediately on arrival in Murmansk, go on board and begin your journey to the North Pole. This takes a few days as you watch the ship crash through ice packs with ease. You will be able to take a helicopter ride for thrilling views of the Arctic Ocean as you sail through it.

Arrival at the North Pole will be heralded with flag waving, a champagne toast, a barbecue on ice and the ability to take photos. Plus you can take a plunge in the icy waters if so inclined. This will be topped with a hot air balloon ride.

Sailing back from the North Pole, you will pass Franz Josef Land, a group of 191 uninhabited islands situated entirely in the Arctic Circle. Explore Cape Flora where the remains of 3 ill-fated Arctic expeditions floundered. You can take a Zodiac to view the seabird rookeries in towering cliffs and also take a helicopter ride for exceptional aerial views.

A few days later, arrive back in Murmansk where you will disembark and take your chartered flight back to Helsinki. After one more night here, your “Ultimate Arctic Adventure” sadly comes to an end.
