- On request
Today, you will travel on the picturesque Chao Phraya River, also known as the "River of the Kings", and through the klongs (canals) of Thonburi on the west side of the river from Bangkok. There will be a chance to observe and photograph the serene family homes and temples along the waterways ,which gave the city the nickname of "Venice of the East." You will also visit a major riverside landmark, the Temple of Dawn, or Wat Arun, which has a pagoda that soars 79 m into the sky. The Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew inhabit a common compound and the Palace is presently used only for occasional ceremonial purposes. It is no longer the royal residence, as the current King Bhumibol (Rama IX) lives in Chitralada Palace, located nearby in Bangkok's Dusit District, though the interior of most of the buildings remain closed to the public.
