Beijing to Shanghai with High Speed Train

Duration
8 Days
Prices From:
US$ 1,343

Perfect for those with limited time, this trip takes in the best of China’s most popular cities, both ancient and new.

See China’s urban highlights on this 8 day introduction to Beijing and Shanghai, travelling between the two via high speed rail clocking over 300km per hour!

Sight-seeing in Beijing starts in Tian’anmen Square, the world’s largest public plaza and gateway to the Forbidden City. Built in the early 15th century, this incredible complex served as the centre of Chinese government for almost 500 years. Spend the morning exploring, then enjoy a Hutong tour, seeing a lifestyle that has changed little in the face of a rapidly modernizing China.

No trip to Beijing is complete without a day exploring the Great Wall of China. Visit Mutianyu, a mid-6th Century section in excellent condition that is both older and less touristed than Badaling. Enjoy incredible mountain scenery, centuries of history and perhaps even an impromptu dance class before you descend. Visit a Jade carving factory on your way back to Beijing. On your last day in the capital, visit the Summer Palace and Temple of Heaven park, then take your seats for the long-running Kung Fu show.

Climb aboard the Jinghu High-Speed Railway, crossing the world’s longest bridge, clocking speeds of over 300kph on your way to Shanghai.

The world’s largest city has been China’s busiest port for centuries. A sunset stroll along the Bund is an essential Shanghai experience, with colonial architecture on one side and Pudong’s shimmering skyscrapers on the other. Visit the classical Yu Garden and Jade Buddha Temple, then go on to the Shanghai Museum. Shaped like the world’s largest dumpling steamer, the museum contains artifacts from throughout Chinese history. See the shikumen houses of the Xin Tian Di neighbourhood, which is dotted with coffee shops and charming alleyways. Enjoy a tour of the Shanghai Silk Spinning Factory. With your free time, perhaps join the consumer frenzy of Nanjing Road, or spend a few hours wandering the French Concession, home to innovative art studios and some of Shanghai’s most picturesque neighbourhoods and parks.
