Classic South East Asia incl. Air

Duration
11 Days
Prices From:
US$ 2,339

Explore the sights, sounds, sensations and tastes of four distinct corners of Asia on this whirlwind trip through some of the continent’s most exciting stops. From Bangkok to Singapore, then on to idyllic Bali, your trip ends amid the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong. It’s the perfect Asia 101 for travellers who want a piece of it all.

This 11-day, air-inclusive trip to Asia offers you a taste of four very different destinations. Hit the streets of Bangkok, basking in the beauty of its ancient temples and palaces and relishing its street food. Leap into the future in ultra-modern (and equally delicious) Singapore, step into the unique Hindu culture and island beauty of Bali, all before finishing off in Hong Kong, Asia’s original fusion of east and west.

Touch down in Bangkok, shake off the jetlag, and set out on a sightseeing tour that starts at the Grand Palace. See the ancient Thai court, Reception Hall, Coronation Hall, and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. See the Reclining Buddha of Wat Po, before spending the afternoon as you see fit. Perhaps explore the local markets, or sample the street food that has made Thailand famous. Don’t fill up too much however. Save some room for a delicious Thai set dinner onboard your Chao Phraya River cruise, taking in the awesome sights of Bangkok after dark. The following day, head out to the floating market of Ratchaburi Province, and the world’s highest stupa, Phra Pathom Chedi. Your day trip ends at Sampran riverside village, where you can try your hand at some traditional Thai arts and crafts, or watch the experts in action.

Singapore is a city unlike anywhere else in the region – or possibly on earth. You’ll notice similarities to Bangkok, but Singapore seems to have leapt firmly into the future, with its cutting-edge architecture and otherworldly, yet functional creations like the Supertrees that mark the Gardens by the Bay. Take in the views from Merlion Park, visit one of the city’s oldest Buddhist-Taoist temples, and visit the National Orchid Garden, where thousands of orchids are displayed. End the day in Little India, where delicious food, beautiful saris and the sounds of South Asia create one of the city’s favourite neighbourhoods.

Fly on to Bali, where your time is spent at leisure. This might be a good opportunity to catch your breath, relaxing on the beach or enjoying a traditional Balinese massage. If you still have some energy, explore the local Hindu culture, unique in mostly Muslim Indonesia. Visit local temples and villages, and meet some of Bali’s famously welcoming locals.

Your final stop is Hong Kong, not technically part of Southeast Asia, but a great springboard to the entire region. Embark on a day tour that ensures you don’t miss the highlights. Take the tram up to Victoria Peak, and visit Aberdeen Fishing Village, where life remains largely unchanged by Hong Kong’s rush toward modernity. Visits to Repulse Bay and Stanley Market round out your time in Hong Kong, then perhaps end your trip with dinner at one of its renowned all-night local restaurants.

Day 3

Bangkok sightseeing

Today you will visit the famous Grand Palace, Chakri Maha Prasad, one of the most beautiful examples of an ancient Thai court. The palace was the former residence of the Thai kings. There are several things here to admire, including the Reception Hall, the Coronation Hall, the Funeral Hall, and the beautiful Temple of the Emerald Buddha, also known as "Wat Phra Kaew". You can easily visualize the splendour and pageantry of the past.

Later, you will proceed to Wat Po, home of the enormous Reclining Buddha and one of the oldest and largest temples in Bangkok. Please note that modest dress is expected on this tour.

On arrival back at your hotel, you will have the afternoon at leisure to explore on your own until your pick up at early evening for your Manohra dinner cruise. You will be picked up from your hotel and taken to the Pier to join the Manohra Rice Barge Dinner Cruise, a romantic and unique culture experience. The cruise sets sail at 7:30PM. Cruising along the Chao Phraya River on this elegant, restored wooden rice barge, you will be introduced to Bangkok by night. It's a spectacular and memorable experience as Thai culinary delicacies are served as you glide down The River of Kings. Manohra can accommodate a maximum of 70 guest diners and en route you will pass the famous Wat Arun (The Temple of Dawn), the magnificent Grand Palace, The Royal Barge Boathouse, and numerous other temples and fascinating landmarks. A delicious Thai set Dinner (Gold Menu) is included and features delicacies such as Thai dumplings, prawn skewers, spicy soups, regional curries, stir fries, fresh seafood, and a traditional Thai dessert. The cruise concludes at 10:00PM and you will be transferred back to your hotel.

Day 4

Bangkok sightseeing

Enjoy a full day of sightseeing, starting with a visit to the famous floating market in Ratchaburi Province. The Damnoen Saduak Floating Market dates back to 1866 when King Rama IV ordered that a canal be dug here to connect the Mekong and Tachin rivers. The Floating Market is an ideal place to witness the traditional ways fruits and vegetables were sold and to see the way locals continue to use boats in their everyday lives. Continue to Phra Pathom Chedi, the world's highest stupa, then visit Sampran riverside village. Here you will have the chance to engage in a variety of Thai arts and crafts workshops, including pottery, martial arts, music and dance, food and herbs, weaving and silk processing. Later in the afternoon, return to your Bangkok hotel.
