Experience the essential sites of Vietnam on this private guided tour. From bustling Ho Chi Minh City in the south to colourful Hoi An on the coast to the attractive northern capital, Hanoi, you’ll experience the best of Vietnam in one exciting week.

Enjoy the highlights of this fast-emerging and friendly destination on an 8-day private guided tour. Whether you’re traveling alone or with family, a private guided tour offers you expert knowledge and set itineraries without compromising the intimacy of your traveling arrangements. They’re an ideal way to see teeming cities, time-worn temples and pagodas, and second-to-none white-sand beaches on a Vietnam vacation.

Starting in Ho Chi Minh City, formerly known as Saigon, watch a scooter go by with a family of five hanging on. Its many markets sell everything from silk to spices and the city is dotted with temples. Start with a tour of the city; see the Notre Dame Cathedral the uniquely designed Post Office, Reunification Hall (formerly the Presidential Palace) and the History Museum. Later, visit to the infamous Cu Chi Tunnels, an elaborate underground system of tunnels and chambers built in the 1940’s and used again in the 1960’s to evade the foreign enemy.

Fly from Ho Chi Minh City to Danang and take time to enjoy the Cham Museum with its large collection of sculptures after which head to Hoi An viewing en route the Marble Mountains and China Beach.

Hoi An is a UNESCO world heritage site. It is a historical port where the old town is a maze of interesting narrow streets and alleyways. Here you will start with a walking tour to explore Hoi An. The next day, visit the local market to buy ingredients for a 2 hour cooking class in which you will prepare a meal and then enjoy it for lunch. The restaurant is reached by boat along the Hoi An River.

Return to Danang for your flight to the capital, Hanoi, a mix of east and west due to its wide boulevards and French influences. The next morning visit Ho Chi Minh’s mausoleum where his embalmed body lies in state.  Also visit the nearby museum to learn more about the man. In the afternoon, visit the charming and lovely One Pillar Pagoda, the Temple of Literature dating back to the 11th Century and the uniquely designed Opera House.  Finally, take a stroll through the ancient quarter called the 36 Streets all traditionally named after artisans and craftsmen.

Day 3

Full Day Cu Chi and Ho Chi Minh City Tour including lunch

Journey out of Ho Chi Minh City to the Cu Chi region, where you will visit the vast underground network of tunnels built first as a defence against the French, and later expanded during the Vietnam war. It was from here that the North Vietnamese waged their guerrilla warfare. You will marvel at their ingenuity and resilience. See secret trapdoors, underground kitchens, living areas and meeting rooms. The more adventurous may explore the deeper second, and even third level tunnels. For those preferring to remain above ground, there is ample opportunity to view excavated areas from above. Your guide will advise you of the length and level of difficulty of each tunnel before entering - some are easily accessed by stairs. We recommend good walking shoes and sun protection for this tour and advise you may get a little dirty!
In the afternoon, enjoy a tour of Ho Chi Minh City. Proceed to the former Presidential Palace, which is now preserved as a museum, including the underground communications bunker headquarters for the Saigon Government during the War. Continue to the History Museum, which houses an excellent display tracing the origins of the indigenous Vietnamese. Visit Notre Dame, an impressive neo-Romanesque cathedral in the centre of city. Half Day Emperors of Contrast by Road to Tu Duc and Khai Dinh Tomb

The hills surrounding Hue are dotted with the tombs of the Nguyen dynasty emperors. Built not only as an eternal resting place, the tombs were designed for recreation; somewhere the Emperor could fish, hunt and enjoy the company of concubines in his twilight years. Your tour combines visits to two of the most contrasting tombs. First, you will visit the tomb of Emperor Tu Duc, resplendent in traditional architecture, paved walkways, resting pavilions overlooking tranquil lotus ponds, and a small forest for hunting. In stark contrast, you will continue on to Khai Dinh's Tomb. Remembered as the "Puppet Emperor" because of his affiliation with the French, this tomb was designed with colonial flair, and a glass mosaic frieze dominates the interior.
