Start with the colourful port of Busan, continue to historic Gyeongju then Pyeongchang and Yangyan with its scenic Mt. Seoraksan. This short tour gives a glimpse into unusual aspects of Korea.

This 4 day tour explores some of the lesser, albeit excellent sites of Eastern Korea. Leave Seoul by bus stopping en route to Busan at Jinju to see the Jinjuseong Fortress with its Middle Ages history of battles with the Japanese. In Busan visit the Nurimaru APEC House, an imposing and beautiful meeting centre located on an island and also take time to shop in Korea’s foremost colossal shopping centre, the imposing Centum City Shopping Mall.

The next day head to Ulsan, Korea’s most famous seaside metropolis and 7th largest city. Here visit Ulgi Park situated close to the beach with its scenic rocky promontory. Afterwards, continue to Gyeongju.  One thousand years ago, until the 10th century, Gyeongju was the capital of the Silla Dynasty.

Now, almost a thousand years later, Gyeongju is an open-air museum with the remains of temples, tombs, shrines, palaces, gardens and castles. In the centre of town, Royal Tumuli Park is a huge walled area with 20 royal tombs. The finest example of Silla temple architecture is Bulguksa, a magnificent temple built on a series of stone terraces just outside Gyeongju.

Also visit the Gyeongju National Museum with its collection of mainly Silla relics and Yangdong Village with its 150 tile roof houses and thatched cottages; some are 500 years old. Later travel to Daegu, Korea’s 4th largest city for overnight.

The next morning head for Andong, home of Confucianism in Korea and visit Hahoe Village, well known for its traditional homes and its scenic location. Continue to Wonju and visit the Hanji Theme Park and experience the making of Hanji (traditional Korean paper). Later travel to Pyeongchang, site of the future 2018 Winter Olympics, for overnight.

The next morning, leave for Gangneung and visit the Juminjun Fish Market. After which, have a final stop at Mount Seoraksan, a UNESCO World Heritage site due to the many rare species of flora here. It is now a National Park offering ski resorts, hot springs and historic treasures. Later return to Seoul.
