An exciting tour of an exceptional land. Experience the highest mountain range in South East Asia, lush rainforests and a native longhouse on this perfect in-depth journey through Borneo.

The Island of Borneo is shared by Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei. The area occupied by Malaysia is approximately 30%. There are two Malaysian states, namely Sabah and Sarawak.

Commence with arrival in the capital of Sarawak, Kuching, an attractive city situated on the banks of the Sarawak River. The following day is time to get to know Kuching. Start with a visit to the old Fort Margherita on the other side of the river, then to the 7 storey tall Tua Pek Kong Temple, the oldest Chinese temple in Kuching and the Sarawak Museum.  The remainder of the day is at leisure. You might want to take time to visit the whimsical Cat Museum (Kuching means Cat in Malay).

The next day takes you to the Semenggok Orangutan Sanctuary, where the primates are rehabilitated and trained to survive in the rainforest. Later, continue to an Iban Tribe Longhouse. This is a unique visit to a Longhouse reached by road before arriving in a remote part of the country. You will stay over and see how the original Headhunters now live. Enjoy dinner here after which meet the Headman and also be entertained by traditional dances and try the locally made rice wine. The following morning is devoted to a demonstration of various tribal games played by the Iban after which return to Kuching for overnight.

There are over 3500 different plants and 270 species of birds here.  Later, travel by boat to the park’s headquarters where you will commence a walk on a raised 3 kilometre/2 mile plank through the forest. The following morning, you will discover the unusual Mulu caves starting with Clearwater 60 kilometres/ 37 miles of cave system and the longest in Asia. Day 2

Kuching

After breakfast, depart for Kuching City tour. Kuching has been a melting pot of cultures for hundreds of years. Combined with a unique history, which sounds almost like an adventure fairy tale with its rebellions and piracy, the headhunting tribes and the era of the "White Rajahs", Kuching has become a truly special place. See all the different facets of the many cultures combined in Kuching, like Malay, Indian and Chinese culture and learn about the history of Sarawak on this city tour.

Highlights include the Gambier spice streets, India street, Urang Sarawak Gallery, the oldest Chinese temple in Sarawak, Kuching South City Hall, as well as the Brooke Gallery at Fort Margherita. You will also get to see a Malay Village, the old State Mosque and the Civic Centre with the Chinese graveyard. Not to be missed of course is a stop at the Kuching Waterfront with a view of the Astana, the former "White Rajah Palace", and other colonial buildings.

Day 3

Kuching to Batang Ai

After an early breakfast, check-out from your hotel. Depart to the Semenggoh Nature Reserve. The entire facility occupies an area of 740 acres and acts as a sanctuary for orang utans that have been rescued from captivity and young orphaned primates. These animals are trained or re-trained to survive in their natural habitat. They learn how to forage for natural food and build nests in the trees. Many have been returned into the surrounding area of the nature reserve. But there are few that will never re-learn their natural skills due to long association with and dependence on humans. There are daily scheduled feeding times. However, sightings of these primates during feeding times are not guaranteed due to the fact that they are roaming freely within the nature reserve.

From here we depart to Batang Ai. You will travel 290 km by air-conditioned vehicle, with a few stops along the way: the first one at Serian town, where we will stop for refreshments. You can also visit a fascinating native fruit and vegetable market. The other stops include a stop at the roadside where you can see wild orchids and also pitcher plants (insect-eating plants). The last stop will be at "Lachau", a small up country Chinese village, where we will stop for lunch. Here you can still observe barter trading between the natives of Kalimantan, the Chinese shop owners and the natives of Sarawak. At Lachau you may wish to make some last minute shopping, for necessities such as insect repellent or for gifts for the Ibans.

After lunch you will proceed to arrive at the beautiful Batang Ai lake. Here, you will board a ferry/boat for 30 minutes ride across the lake to reach the resort. After check-in, the rest of the day is free at leisure to use the many facilities of the resort.
