The Great Iban Longhouse Experience

3 Days
Prices From:
US$ 632

A totally unique experience. Spend time in the hinterland of Borneo becoming acquainted with the tribes who were formerly headhunters. Stay in an authentic longhouse and become one with nature.

Want to experience an up close and personal experience with the Iban natives, the former Head Hunters of Borneo? This itinerary is highly recommended to anyone who wants an authentic experience in a longhouse.

Start in Kuching, the capital of Sarawak State departing for Batang Ai National Park by bus, a 4 and a half journey passing through pepper gardens, cocoa and rubber plantations en route. On arrival at the reservoir in the park, continue on a longboat to the Nanga Sumpa lodge, in the area of the home of the original inhabitants of Borneo.  Nowadays, the Ibans have adopted a peaceful, agrarian lifestyle but maintaining their strong cultural identity and heritage. Known for their tradition of warm hospitality, you will be made to feel very welcome during your visit. The facilities reflect the remote location and are somewhat basic. However, bear in mind, the beauty of the area and the Iban people are the real attractions. After dinner at the lodge, intermingle with the Ibans and learn all about their culture and enjoy some locally made rice wine.

After breakfast, the next day, have a hike on jungle trails along the river to the scenic Ensuluai Waterfall where there will be time to swim, explore the rainforest and have lunch. On return to the lodge and after dinner, once again visit the longhouse and take a look at the hand-made blankets and handicrafts on display.

The following morning, it is time to return by boat and bus to Kuching.
